Default HD DVD, give it up already, geez

I like my meat cooked medium well, so stick a fork in it, it's done, is it really necessary that we fry it until we can call it jerky?

I would agree but look at how much money is to be made in the long run can you really fault them for trying? I know I would not just give up. Get real there is literally billions of dollars at stake. If you do not understand why they don't then you really do not understand business.

I understand business more than you think and they are at a point they can not win, all they can do is loses a lot more money. Do you actually think they are going to get studios back? Do you actually think they are making money of they're players? Do you you think they stand to piss of consumers?

Yes id say you need a new to take some more business classes.

Hopefully,.. Toshiba has already given up but just can't public state anything to that effect.

I think they fact they haven't announced any new players and news about the publicity stunt previously known as TL51 has stopped and all the players have had prices slashed all indicate they just want to dump the stuff now while they still can.

Best Buy needs to up and send back all the HD DUD crapola but I bet they can't move on that just now because of all the open box returned HD DUD players they have sitting in the store. Hopefully soon Best Buy and WalMart can bring the hammer down yet again on HD DUD.

As far as the DUD-ers themselves,.. they will never admit the loss. They will always think HD DUD is going to win even afer it's regulated to mail order only. Witness how they continue to suggest Disney wants to jump ship to join HD DUD.

Yeah,... I wish we could really get with the losing team. If they believe that,.. They can believe anything.

Do you actually think they are going to get studios back? Not Happening

Do you actually think they are making money of they're players? If they weren't before, they certainly aren't now.

Do you you think they stand to piss of consumers? Too Late!

All good points. Toshiba and Paramount/Universal will lose even more money the longer they prolong this war. Toshiba should just give up and make a few dual format players for those that bought into the format. Instead, they are going to wait this out even longer, throw more money away and not win them any friends.

Paramount and Universal? I dunno. 15% of HD sales with Warner still in the picture. Not too impressive. Seems they like taking money instead of making it.

(Although see related Bill Hunt threads on rumors that this may now be a deliberate ploy for Toshiba to try and harrass the BDA into bribing them to go away, by letting them keep some intellectual design patents on any future use of the format--Which was one of the Fort Sumters that blew up the whole mess in the first place...)

Y'know, I don't even remember which company invented DiVX players. I don't...What, was that Toshiba, too? Sony?

All I know is, I literally haven't set foot in a Circuit City for seven years, because THEY were the ones who wanted that sweet monopoly, and they were the ones who just wouldn't get off the stage, even when we were brandishing the baseball bats, and getting that rail ready to ride them out the county line--
If Toshiba thinks customer resentment's just going to blow away like smoke in a year or two after all this format fuss dies down, they've seriously underestimated their harvest from this war...

I think you both are right. Corporations take sales graphs and financial reports very seriously. They also take contracts very seriously. This is a major defeat for them and they are probably studying their options and potential consequences. Until a new strategy is in place, they hold their course while studying their options. Their next move is not something they can take lightly.

Very appropriate, 'cause anyone buying into HD DV now is a jerk!

Default Actually I'd like to see Uni and Para neutral for a few months

It'll give the HD-DVD nuts a little more to do:

- There are STILL movies. I'm sticking with it.

- Toshiba's planning a BIG response, just wait.

- More price cuts. That'll move hardware and force Warner back neutral. We're not dead yet.

At the other forum I was at before this they thought the price cuts of recent days were great. Nevermind that they ignored any suggestion of desperation on Toshiba's part. Nevermind that the whole idea of cheap hardware moving software hasn't worked since the war started. NOW it'll work.

Yawn. After May 2008 there will be nothing Toshiba and the HD DVD Promotions Group can do to save their dead format. By Christmas 2008 every major studio will be supporting Blu-ray. Does anyone really doubt this to be true?
