my brother is looking to buy the 46" model and came away highly impressed after checking one out at a BB. from the user reviews it looks to be an awesome set.
cnet gave it a pretty good review also: +'s: Produces a deep level of black; accurate primary colors; dejudder mode smoothes moving video with few artifacts; screen attenuates ambient lighting; solid connectivity with four HDMI and one PC input; numerous picture controls including white balance; attractive styling with transparent pane below screen. -'s: Black level fluctuates in dark areas; less accurate color decoding; below-average viewing angle; cumbersome menu system are you planning on buying it off of amazon? their price isn't bad at all, but just a heads up J&R warehouse has it for $1549 until 3/7 (no free shipping though which kind of cancels out the lower price ![]() link: http://www.jr.com/sony/pe/SON_KDL52W4100/ Last edited by Sussudio; 03-03-2009 at 12:01 AM. |

When you are spending $1500 or more you really should look at a front projector instead as they have 1080, and can be tailored to the maximum the room can handle. Size matters, after going front projection I would never go back to an ordinary TV again.

I've seen the W-Series at a Sony Style store and it looked pretty sweet to me. With regards to the front projection, I kindly disagree. From what i've seen the room has to be almost pitch black for the picture to look any good.

Today's modern front projectors can handle filtered light pretty well as I have a large skylight in the middle of my living room. It only takes two seconds to cover the skylight with the levelor blind but even if I do not close it, the brightness is able to handle the light. The simple cheap fix is window blinds. I have a 7' screen and would never go back to anything less. Front projectors have improved drastically both in brightness, black levels, and price. Projectors now that only cost 2K are better than projectors that used to cost $15k just years ago. Once you experience a front projector anything less is just weak.

The new W series won't be available for $1500 in a 52" model though... I got my 52W4100 at the end of last summer from Amazon for $2300 and I love it... It's no Kuro as far as blacks go, but then again what is? The Samsungs may have slightly better blacks but the fact that you are forced to use default picture settings while in game mode (read: no lag) is a horrible trade off in my opinion.
I don't think you'll find a better 52" for the money, it's a complete steal at the price it's at right now. Also, like other posters have said, visit the calibration thread for this TV at AVS and it will help you a whole lot. Last edited by Polyh3dron; 05-08-2009 at 04:56 AM. |

I bought my dad the W 52" my mom the Z 46" and myself the Z 46" The only difference that I've noticed is the Z's are a brighter picture than the W's, but I attributed that to the size of the 52's. Please let me know if you've got specific question and I'd be happy to answer, take care. |

It has some esoteric features such as DMeX compatibility and voice zoom.

I have the 40W4100.
Absolutely love it. Some artifacts and some ghosting when watching Blu's with the 120hz but I don't let it bother me. I kinda like my movies with that soap opera effect. Colors look great. Menu is deep. Customization is at your command. I love it. |
