Default Is the AVR outdated?

Hi, I am not very well versed with AV equipment. I have a Harmon/Kardon AVR 120. My BD player is a Sharp. Is this receiver up to date enough to take advantage of the BD player. If not what would be your suggestion for a receiver? Links to specs. below. Thank you

I can't tell from your links, but does your AVR have 6 or 7 multichannel analog input?

I have an old AVR (2000 ish) that has it, and I'm able to reap the benefits of DTSMA and True DD.

I'm not sure. Would a better link with specifications help?

I didn't see it in the specifications you provided, so you might not have it. Any chance you can grab a pic of the rear of the AVR (for inputs, etc.)?

Either that or check your user manual.

This is off H/K's webpage

http://www.harmankardon.com/specific...%20120&sType=H

No mention of multichanell in manual.

I'll try and find a picture of the back

That doesn't necessarily matter. I bought mine in 2000, and it has the 6-channel analog inputs.

From what I can tell it doesn't have them. I think the least expensive receivers out now that would will give you lossless audio over HDMI are the Yamaha RX-V465 and the Onkyo TX-SR507. However, I would recommend you step up at least to the the Yamaha RX-V665 or Onkyo TX-SR607. I might lean toward the Yamaha 665 because it has a full set of pre-outs, but Onkyo doesn't offer this feature until you get to the TX-SR706. I expect the TX-SR707 to be announced soon, which will probably drive the 706 down in price.

Thanks for all the great replys. I just received a confirmation email from HK. The AVR 120 does not have the 6 chanel analog inputs. I'll look into those AVR suggestions. Thanks again

Remember those are good entry-level receivers, for around $500 or a little less. If you want to spend more, and get a little bit better model, come back here cuz there are a lot of great models to pick from.

I live in Canada so prices are considerably higher. I could have a AVR sent up to me from the states but the Canadian dollar is so low now it washes the saving. Thanks for everything.
