Default Worried about being outdated?

I am currently looking at the Smasung 650 series, because there is not much difference between theat and teh 7 and 850 series but I cant afford the 950, My worry is that is my TV gonna be outdated in another 6 months to a year if I buy it now?

If you are worried about being outdated when buying electronics, then you will never buy much cause things just change rather quickly.

All I can say is buy what you feel is the best for you, in your price range and enjoy every minute of it.

There is always going to be something better. I would just get as big of a set as you can afford.

If you are going to worry about outdated products, you should never buy anything. Buy what you can afford and enjoy it. In the meantime, go to the races in Saratoga and win a few dollars so that you can afford a more expensive model. On the way to the races, you can stop at Skidmore College and party a little.

That's the nature of technology. I'm happy with my current HT setup and will probably not upgrade for a few years or more. I'm currently typing on a laptop I purchased back in 2003. Other than a few loose keys it works like a charm. *knocks on wood*

I went through the same feelings when buying my TV last year, but at some point you just have to pull the trigger. Read the forums for reviews and different features on the different TV's you're looking at. You'll see all the different complaints and drawbacks(they all have some), and then decide which features you have to have, and which problems are deal breakers. There's no perfect TV, and there never will be.

I was driving myself nuts trying to decide which TV to get, should I wait, ect. Its much more fun to open that box and plug it in. I've never regretted buying when I did.

CES will be going on in about a week. Just wait and see what new t.v.'s are announced and their specs, then from there determine if it's worth it to wait for the new ones, and possibly pay more, or pull the trigger now on the 650.

with a 1080p, 120hz tv.. you'll be fine for awhile... LED backlighting is still a pricey option... and that's were lcd's are going.. in 6 months there more then likely won't be a tv out in that price range, with more features.

Or as I'm hoping current models start to become obsolete and drop drastically in price. KURO non-elite (5020? I think) for under 1,200 to maybe 1,500, is when I pull the trigger. If you have the cash, ya get the best. I'd wait for the next thing such as OLED, Laser or whatever and get yesterday's best cheap.

Dont worry about your tv being outdated because as long as it's serving your purpose then hang onto it. You dont have to go out and buy and new tv every year to stay current. To me that's stupid. Why waste your money? It seem's every month there's a new LCD coming out with all new different gadgets and so fourth and it's hard to keep up with it all if you ask me. So if your HD look's good, plays good and does what it's supposed to do then just hang onto what you have because you will save more money that way.

I got my Sony KDL-40XBR4 television in 2007, and now, they are up to XBR8! I'm not unhappy with my purchase at all, though. Most of the time, we are not really buying new technology. We are merely "renting" it!

Then again, check out my gallery. There's a lot of older stuff in there. I still have yet to upgrade to get all the benefits of uncompressed audio (that is coming soon, though). My Sony receiver is from 2001, and it actually covers more parameters for audio than the Sony STR-DG920 that I am looking forward to getting in the near-future. I'm been quite happy with it, and for now, it does decode the "core" of DD TrueHD and DTS HD-MA. Not uncompressed (can't wait), but sounds great.

i got my 52A650 last july for 4500$ (at launch ,i live in the middle east ) now it's almost 3500$, anyway i was planning to get a 52" since 2 years, i really found that the features of the 6 series are very future proof, unless laser technology is here i really see no benefit, after calibrating the TV the blacks are very good. and the high contrast benefits are clear.
ofcourse if i am buying now i'll get the newer model (8 or 9) because simply i'll buy the newer stuff.
but as i mentioned above i am not regretting or feeling that i am missing something in comparison with the new models.
