Italy 'Dial M' and 'Strangers' Hitchcock Blus

Reviews are up on 'another site' and the real reason for me posting this is that it looks like the 3D version (the only version) of Dial 'M' for Murder will have a 2D version, however, it is in the 1.78:1 AR, not 1.33:1 like the WB DVD from the Hitch box set years ago.

imdb lists 1.85:1 as the OAR. I wonder why WB used the 1.33 one years ago.

Which one do you prefer??

It was designed for 1.85. But yes it was shown originally in older Theaters at academy ratio (1,37).

So it was basically just for theatrical presentations? Thanks!

A Warner Bros. film released in 1954 would have 100% been framed for and presented at 1.85:1.

They released it in 1.33 before because 4:3 TVs were more popular then, and the film could be presented this way without cropping.

I don't think it's that simple. In 2004 Warner was not in the habit of offering films in modified AR. I think Warners made a mistake on the US DVD in Sept 2004, as the film was released just as the changeover was happening in that era and it was easy to confuse the original filmmaker's intentions. They fixed it for the UK DVD, released in Nov 2004, which was 1.78.
