This is a sequel that I have zero problems with. It's not an unnecessary one where they're trying to squeeze every last penny out of a franchise. The first one was fun enough that I'll watch this one, too.

Good to hear. The first movie was one of the biggest surprises for me in 2015.

It's funny. My 5 year-old who also digs the flick was asking me yesterday if there was gonna be another one. I began trying to explain how it was doubtful due to the box office returns of the first one and the economics of the movie biz. Now I can just tell him yes which will be a much easier conversation for someone his age.

Goosebumps 2 Release Date Set By Sony Pictures

With the sequel originally announced in April of last year, Sony Pictures (via Exhibitor Relations) has set a Goosebumps 2 release date of January 26, 2018!

The first film’s director Rob Letterman (Shark Tale, Monsters vs. Aliens) and screenwriter Darren Lemke (Turbo) will return for Goosebumps 2, with Deborah Forte (The Golden Compass) and Neal H. Moritz (22 Jump Street) also coming back as producers. While Jack Black has yet to sign on, the hope is he will also come back to the fold for more monster mayhem.


The first Goosebumps made $156.7 million on a $58 million budget, and hit #1 on the sales charts when it was released on home video . Since there are 62 books in the original “Goosebumps” series, the filmmakers will have plenty of material to wade through in order to craft a story.

Based on Scholastic’s worldwide best-selling book series, with over 400 million copies in print, Goosebumps starred Jack Black (School of Rock) as “Goosebumps” author R.L. Stine, along with Dylan Minnette (Prisoners), Ryan Lee (Super 8) and Odeya Rush (The Giver). When Zach (Minnette) unwittingly unleashes magical monsters on the town, he must team with his new friends Champ (Lee), Hannah (Rush) and Stine (Black) to send the ghouls back where they came from before it’s too late.

Ace screenwriting team Scott Alexander & Larry Karaszewski (Big Eyes, “The People v OJ Simpson”) penned the story for the original, with Lemke writing the screenplay.

I didn't have the chance yet to see the first one yet, but I did like the trailer a lot. Looked like decent fun reminding me of the same spirit 'Jumanji' had, only a Halloween version. I know it's based on the books and there's a TV series, but I was a bit too old for that when those came out. It's my younger sisters generation who grow up with this. One question though, the trailers made it seem like it was just elements of lots of books and their creatures thrown into one big movie. Was that actually the case?
