Default PS3 audio issues (optical)

I have my PS3 connected to an Onkyo receiver (HT-R340) through an optical cable. However, my surround doesn't seem to work, and when I listen to music there's no bass.

When I connect it to my dvd player through COAX, everything seems to work fine. Not sure what exactly I need to do to the PS or the receiver to get the full sound. Anyone have any clue?

Thanks!

Hmm, no idea. Just connected my PS3 up via optical and it's sending bass.

You did select a codec your reciever supports, yada yada?

Have you tried changing:

Settings > BD/DVD Settings > BD Audio Output Format (Optical Digital)

?

That's not the option to output via optical but to select between Bitstream/ Linear PCM.

i have an onkyo receiver (not sure whitch model). what i had to do was, when i pluged the ps3 in via HDMI the receiver automatically just sends the video and AUDIO to the tv via HDMI. you have to change the settings on the receiver to use the optical audio. it told you how to do it in the manual, you just have to search for it. (i had the same problem)

Default same problem possible solution

i've had sound problems too with PS3 using optical cable and playing F1 game, I couldn't hear the radio pit crew and the commentator but the engine and wheel sounds were ok. What i did was to simply disconnect and reconnect the optical cable which fixed the problem. I don't know if that will help with you

I also have an ONKYO receiver

hola, I have the same problem, I also have an onkyo, what I do and it always work it`s that I pop up the volume to 60 or 75 and let it there about 5 or 10 seconds, then the bass begins to work.
