My friend was over the other day and he ahd his Xbox 360 hooked up to my samsung ln52a750 through component cables and when I hit info to see what the tv was recieving as far as a signal goes and it says it was recieving a 1080p signal, my question is I thought it wasnt possible for component cables to put out a 1080p signal, is it possible or is there something else wrong?

Only some HDTV's support 1080p via component cables and the source must also be able to put 1080p out via component cables. When both are so, you will get 1080p from those cables! Not all HDTV's or HD Sources will do or accept this. Remember, it's not about the cable itself, it's about the devices at both ends of the cable!

you'll have to check the game to see what supports. some games are in
720p, some in 1080i and some in 1080p. so, you'll have to read the box and then if your HDTV supports 1080p via component then that is what you'll get. Best of luck! |

As far as I know, that TV model can't accept a 1080p signal over component cables. Only few TV models ever did and they were older, much older than the 750.
Just a fun fact, the HD-DVD player add-on for the 360 was the first HD-DVD player able to output full 1080p (via component cables of course because the Elite hadn't been released yet). |

You think that's funny, check this out: Sometimes when I have my PS3 on and hooked up to my 32" Westinghouse 1080i, I'll get a reading in the upper corner of the screen that says 1920x1080, instead of 1080i like it normally displays. Hmmm 1080p on a 1080i set. Boogles my mind.

Like I said before, the HD-DVD add-on was the first HD-DVD player able to output Full HD 1080p. The HD-DVD add-on came out before the Elites were released. Hence, the only way to get full 1080p out of the older 360's would be to use component cables. There was no other option.
