Default Importing Questions

So I want to buy some movies overseas because I want losslass audio. For example, I want to buy the UK version of Terminator 3 that has Dolby TrueHD. I never imported a movie before. The Audio in English should be sync with the lips right? I know that might be a stupid question but I just want to make sure. That something I can't stand when watching a movie. I also have Amazon Prime, so if I select two today shipping, will I get that or would I have to pay something because they are shipping overseas? For those who do import, have you run into any problems with shipping and playback of the movies etc? Thanks for everyone’s help. You guys give me great advice! This site rocks!

Edit: Also, with it being in PAL format, how does that effect the viewing on my tv in the states? Thanks

Sorry another edit: I have the Sony BDP-S1 player which is region A. So will it play a region free movie?

I have imported a few from the UK.

No sync issues and everything plays, but I make sure they are Region A compatible first.

Some extras may be in PAL and some titles may not be region free. Check here to see if there are any issues.

The UK Terminator 3 looks and sounds great.

Amazon Prime won't apply to purchases from overseas. You have to pay shipping. I've ordered from Amazon.uk with no problems. Just make sure the titles you're interested in are region free or is compatible with region A.

The NTSC/PAL standards don't apply to Blu-Ray movies. You can watch them just fine. However, it may prevent you from watching the extras if they are in standard definition. But this is on a case-by-case basis.

DetroitSportsFan, how much do you spend on shipping? Is it a lot more? Thanks!

Shipping isn't bad - I think it's like 2.99 per order, plus 99 cents per disc through amazon.uk.

I just tested shipping for one Blu-Ray, and air shipping (6-10 days) was approximately $5.04. The more you buy, the cheaper shipping (per disc) gets.

Amazon.uk has a Buy 2 Get 1 Free sale going on. Some titles from this list I know are region free and are worth buying are:

The Thing (has many extras not included on the U.S. release)
The Goonies (not available in the U.S)
Face/Off (better picture/sound than U.S. version)
Almost Famous (not available in the U.S)

is the UK version Region B? Universal's UK release of Mongol is Region B, despite not saying it anywhere on the sleeve, at least not that I can see.

Yes, the UK is region B, but there are many region free and multi-region BDs released there.
