Default Can you burn avi files to blu ray?

I was wondering about burning avi files to blu ray discs, because is would be easy to have all my data back up onto blu ray. Or is it only mkv file extensions that can be burned to blu ray. Where can you buy cheap blu ray single and dual layers from i live in ireland?

Anything can be burned to Blu-ray disks. They are just optical storage. Now do you want to play these files on a standalone player or are you just using the blu-ray disc as a backup?

I probably just wanna back up the discs like a library for my avi movies, avi tv shows and other file formats and some music as well. Is there a way you can do that so it will come in a stand alone player? Example if you burnt aload of avi movies to blu ray disc and then opened it in vlc player would it open one after the other? Thanks for your help, do you know anywhere i could buy blu ray single or dual layer for cheap or reasonable prices?

I don't think stand alone players will play burned discs yet, but don't quote me on that.

As far as putting files on the disk, as long as VLC can play the files then yes they will play. There are mony idfferent options for playback in VLC. Single files, multiple files, folders, and entire discs can be selected to play.
