I have a very specific feature requirement list, and I haven't found a good site to find/sort players that satisfy it. Hopefully someone on this forum can help out.
Anyone know of some players that have all three of these?:
It looks like the Samsung HT-BD1250T has all these, but that's bundled into a whole home theater package. I'd like to look at individual players to widen my options for speakers. I'm in the U.S. in case that matters. Thanks in advance! Joe |

I don't know of any non-HTiB standalone players that have radio tuners. Do you absolutely need it? Some (like Samsung) come with Pandora internet radio. I'm afraid that's the best you'll get. Plus, component video won't pass most bd's because of digital rights management...just so you know.

I've get to find a Blu-ray player that lacks component video output. Any BD player should include component output, and any BD player with component output will be able to pass 720p or 1080i output through it. There is a BD "feature" called the image constraint token (ICT) that can be enabled on a disc and force players to scale component video output to 540p, but no studio has yet decided to turn ICT on for a disc because of consumer backlash. If you are talking about composite video output (the single RCA jack, usually yellow) for use with a standard definition TV, most players will also include this as a troubleshooting aid. I don't recall seeing any players that omit composite, although I have seen some that omit s-video. If your TV only supports composite video, though, you may be better off getting a Roku Netflix box for $100 and a using cheap DVD player to tide you over until you get an HDTV.
You won'd find a standalone player with a radio tuner. You'll need a receiver for that (the Samsung you mention is a receiver with a built-in player). Likewise, no standalone player will directly connect to speakers - you'll need a receiver for that, too. There are several players that support Netflix streaming - this page has a list of them. |
