One that doesn't have a display that'll burn out on you.

It depends on what you're looking for- connectivity, features, power, etc. Are the Monitors 8 ohm speakers? If so, just about any receiver with the power is fine- otherwise if they're 4ohm you want to make sure you have a compatible receiver.

Decoding lossless audio is another big plus, as well as HDMI inputs/outputs, if it has pre-outs or not, what the wattage is with all channels driven, if there's any kind of calibration system, and the like.

What's your budget?

Yeah, but nothing that $6 and change can't fix!

Pioneer has new models that are iPod/iPhone friendly. I just bought the VSX-1019AH-K and I love it.

CNET rated the 1019 as the best mid-priced receiver on the market.

That was the one I have been eyeing right now its between the pioneer 1019--and onkyo 806.I really want a reciever that has the calibration tools or that feature that lowers commercials when watching a show.Im thinking the 806 is more then I need.I just feal thet the 1019 wont give enough power to my paradigms to make them sound good. Then again this is all new to me so what do I know.

Pre-outs are a must. You might think you have enough power now, will you feel the same a year from now? I know I didn't. Besides that, HD decoding and sufficient HDMI inputs for your needs.

Yeah, HDMI inputs is a big deal. I have 4 and still could use more. I think the Onkyo has 6 which is sweet if it does?

Since I bought my 1019 I haven't had the problem with commercials like I did with my HK 247. The 1019 has the ALC button which normalizes all sounds coming through it.

I would really look into the Elites if going Pioneer. Even if you don't see yourself needing an amp now, you would hate to have your receiver holding you back in the future.

No, but what is wrong with these?

Even if you have to wait, I would consider it worth it.

Sorry, I forgot about the lack of warranty on those units. I would either look for a good deal on a current Elites to pop up or wait for the new ones.

Pre-outs and enough HDMIs, in and out ,are important for future.

Marantz 5003 has 3 in 1 out. For a bit more I'd get the 6003 with 3 in and 2 out. If like me you have a TV for day and Projector for night 2 out is useful. Or if you don't know what the future will bring.

amazon has the 6003 for $800. If I was in the states I'd get it, but in Taiwan now, so I will wind up paying $1000+ I love my 5200 but it is time to upgrade, and Marantz 6003 will be it for me, unless a 7003 comes out within the next few months.
