Default New This Week: 09/11/2007 Asian Invasion Edition

It's a new week this week which means its time to take a look at what's happening on the release charts. This week is an interesting one as we have the first US anime release on Blu-ray (which amusingly enough came out in Japan back in July for the same price and completely compatible with US players) as well as Sony stepping up with some sweet Chow Yun Fat action. Add in some beautiful Nature visuals and it's quite the interesting mix. Big company, little companies. And yes, BVUSA can be considered little in the grand scheme of things. Anime is very much a niche here!

So step up, speak your mind, vote with your wallet and tell us what you did!

Heh, I'm pretty sure a quick search would find that I said I wasn't going to buy this too.
What changed my mind? The answer would be a $50.00 gift certificate for Amazon.

So I guess I'll be paying $5.95 .

I saw Wings at Suncoast for like $70 (it was on their shelf last week). DVD Pacific has it at $54 (that's where I bought it).

Chris, Keep up your great reviews on anime on BD at your website. At those prices it's nice to see a good and honest review. Now I don't have to quin-dip for Ghost in the Shell (vhs, laser, dvd, remastered dvd) on BD when it comes out here.

Oh yeah. NIN is coming here to Hawaii on September 18 (their only US stop on this tour!). Definately going to see them.

I was soooo disappointed with Ghost in the Shell. If it had even been given an audio boost with TrueHD it would have scored better. but the video was just plain awful even for something like this. It did hold up better than the DVD in some ways and it peaked into 40.8 for video with AVC but still.. so disappointing.

I really REALLY want to support animation on the format with WoH, but I just cant afford it at that price. I'll have to suffice with Tekkon Kinkreet.

The 18th is when it begins for me (don't tell me wife).

For now, for all those who are ordering some of those listed, I've got your back (catalogue that is).

Replacement Killers was my first DVD, and will be awesome on BD! I will also be supporting RBFilms by picking up Nature's Journey if it wasn't delayed.

I'm really hoping for people to talk about the titles quality. It is quite honestly my favorite film of all time and I thought this upgrade was wonderous, particularly in sound quality. The video looks fantastic even if it does show all the flaws in cel based animation from an upstart studio of fans done in the mid 80's.
