Default New This Week: 04/17/2007 Edition

It's old movie week this week as Warner is the only one priming the pump with a couple of titles sure to excite the mainstream...

Is Dragon's Lair going to be released this week? I ordered it last week, but it still hasn't shipped.

OT a bit, I just had a look at the index and saw Josh's handle next to a 7 and mistook it for Josh Z! I had feared the worst at that point

I have seen it at EB Games for $49.99 in the GTA already. So it should ship

Already picked up EtD. It looks amazing. SF are the same as SE SD release. Hey, I'm just happy to even get any decent SF as is. However, the transfer is beautiful. They do a better job transferring older movies than they do with titles from 1997+. What's up with that?

anyone seen the dirty dozen yet? I have heard it wasn't a good transfer, and thus have held off preordering it until I could rent it or see it somewhere.

None of the above. I have been less than thrilled with Warner's low bit-rate VC-1 transfers/encodings. That's number one. Secondly, I saw HD screenshots of Enter the Dragon that confirmed my suspicions that Warner would screw it up.

But, I did, however, purchase a couple older releases this week - Chicago and The Italian Job.

dragons lair was slated for April 17th. So you should eb recieving that soon. It also only cost 27 at amazon, and you get the 10% off (if you get that deal)

Looks like I will pass this week, although I like Enter the Dragon. I'm skeptical of the transfer of "older" or "classic" movies to high definition. I have Rocky and Young Guns II and found it to be grainy at 1080p. And when coming from watching Black Hawk Down and Crank, those 2 older movies don't compare. I was told that it was because they were working with old film. Is that a correct assumption??

Young Guns doesn't look grainy for most of the movie in my 1080p. The title sequence is hyper grainy tho. On purpose.

Why is everybody only looking for grain?

I would suggest watching the seachers to see how amazing older movies can look. for a lot of it you feel like you're in monument valley. low film grain, amazing color, and a good storyline. reminds me of moby dick. less about a whale, more about obsession.
