I've been reading the forum for quite sometime and decided to send my first post out! I recently jumped into the A/V scene by researching speakers and receivers. I have purchased a Pioneer Elite SC-05 receiver and Polk RTi A series speakers. A couple of nights ago I watched the Matrix on Blu-ray and at the part where the elevator blows up at the bottom of the elevator shaft I noticed a popping sound during the explosion (just one pop during the explosion not throughout the entire scene). I played the dvd and also watched the digital copy and there seems to be the same sound. I am now worried that I possibly did damage to my speaker (only had for 2 weeks). I seem to have heard it during other movies but I might just be overly sensitive to it since it nearly scared the crap out of me the first time. Any suggestions, If you have the Matrix and go to that scene does the explosion cause a slight pop sound from your speakers. Hope this is enough information.
My setup includes: Pioneer Elite SC-05 receiver Polk Audio RTi A7 floorstanding speakers Polk Audio CSi A6 center speakers Polk Audio RTi A3 book shelf speakers There is no sub yet, still researching. Speakers are set to Large, mainly because the A7's have woofers and I would like a little bass for now! |

You sure its not just air reverberating through and out the flow port because of really low frequencies?
Since they are set to Large - check that. Put your hand and ear by the port. Hmm, though, if this is the case, you would hear the sound through both fronts... Last edited by JJ; 07-05-2009 at 10:59 PM. |

A little more information, I had my receivers volume at about -20, not that loud considering I am in a small room! |

Turn your speakers to small - or on the equalizer settings, drop the first few octave settings as low as you can - all this to turn the bass down - and replay the scene again...if it's still there - problem. If it's gone, it's just the air, I would think.

Ok, I will have to rerun my MCACC again to change my speaker settings since I did it on Auto. Ill admit I'm a newbie and dropping a few octaves and stuff is a bit complicated. I imagine I will be able to do this once I run it through a manual MCACC setup. I also turned the volume on the receiver to -30 and -40 and the sound is still there. My thinking at this point is that its part of the soundtrack.

Well, the Matrix is in the first few of my Netflix queue, so I can help you out when I see it - perhaps somebody running full-range towers who owns the Matrix can check this scene out for him?
And if it's still there at really low volumes - hmm. But the pop also changes in volume, correct? Hrhm.... You don't have to rerun MCACC. Just adjust the equalizer on the set-up menu. EQ Adjust, I think. I'm not sure how similar our setup Menus may be (since I have the 03 and you the 05) |

Thanks, just saw that, thanks and sorry for the newbie moment! I changed the speaker size to small and its still there, I think I am convinced to this point that it is in the soundtrack of the movie and not a blown tweeter or mid speaker. I've been very cautious with using these, at what volumes can I listen to them (i.e. -20 dB) and not cause them to distort or to damage the speakers. First time ever having surround sound speakers so I am very unsure what volumes I can do. I've heard the Polks can take a huge beating though!

Yeah Bolt is pretty intense for the first 15 minutes. I am watching the iron hide moment in transformers and I am not having an problem. It was more with a popping sound that would come out of the tweeter!
