Default Do you rather had THXPlus mode or Dolby IIz in your receiver?

I debating getting Denon AVR1910 or Pionner Elite 03, but i do the Onyko HT-R960 receiver it has thx plus mode but the video upscale only up to 1080i, is the denon avr1910 use the same video archos by chip as oppo bd83 blu-ray player?

I TEND TO USE THE THX MODE ON MY 876 ALL THE TIME FOR CASUAL TV WATCHING THEN I WILL SWITCH IT TO THX-MUSIC MODE IF I AM BLASTING TUNES. DONT KNOW IF ITS JUST THE ROOM ACOUSTICS, TYPE OF SPEAKERS OR WHAT BUT THE THX ALWAYS SOUNDS ALOT BETTER TO ME THAN THE DOLBY MODES. ITS NOT THE 606 BUT I THINK YOU GET THE IDEA. SORRY DIDNT MEAN FOR CAPS TO BE on

Doesn't make any difference to me i run my AVR in direct mode so the Dolby or THX settings don't alter the sound in any way. Don't forget it's just a setting with the exact specs that come from Dolby or the THX labs, also i find the THX settings to be very flat, non responsive and to much bass for my liking. Don't buy into the THX marketing i think you be very disappointed you spent extra $ for it, plus if you watching allot of blu-rays you will be using the True Dolby HD or DTS Mater audio settings. The Denon IMO is the best AVR in this class that you listed.

Dolby IIz (not IIx) is the new matrix feature from Dolby that allows you to add 2 height channel speakers in the front. It gives you a left, right and a left height channel and right height channel. It can take your system to a total of 9 speakers, but you have to buy 2 more speakers to use it, and nothing at all is recorded in this format. Who knows how well it will catch on. So far I think it's gotten some mixed reviews. Personally I would rather have the THX plus mode. Just my opinion. YMMV.

I don't anticipate this to catch on at my house, that's for sure..... The way I see it, you need the same tweeter etc.... and once you invest a lot on a nice front soundstage, adding a couple of similar speakers for "height" isn't an easy thing to do.....

Perhaps you don't have to get the same tweeter etc.... and it can be like the rear surrounds..... and a couple of small satellite speakers would suffice.... but if that was the case.... the signal is now being shared so some sounds are being sent to your fronts, and other sounds are being sent to the "Top" speakers..... well... if your fronts are good quality... you don't want the other sounds being sent to an inferior speaker.

7.1 is a rarity right now..... in both media, and those who own the necessary equipment to reproduce it (outside of this forum, 5.1 is a rarity still)

I see no need for 9.1

Another discrete LFE channel might be nice though..... although probably rarely utilized.

Interesting

My reciever has a thing called Presence,(which i don't use) . You add two more speakers to the front like in your link has.The only thing is you can't use the b -surrounds.

Most higher end Yamaha receivers have this feature.Which has been around for a little while
Is this kind of what your talking about?

I guess it's similar. I'm not really familiar with Yamaha receivers. It's funny to me when you click on the link I posted, that they show this setup using high end B&W towers up front, then the little height speakers. I'm in the same boat with Beta, and I think you would need speakers of high or even equal quality as your mains for the height channels for everything to blend properly. You definitely won't be seeing it at my house any time soon, and this isn't something I expect to catch on very much.
