Default Jay-Z stops Chris Brown from performing at BET Awards

Quote:
It was said to have originally been determined that Chris Brown, Usher, Neyo, Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z and Dream would all be an active part of the Michael Jackson Tribute.

But the latest word is Chris Brown has been denied!!!! Word backstage from all the celebrities and producers is that Chris Brown and his handlers literally begged the BET execs to reconsider. Insiders say, “Michael Jackson is/was Chris’ idol and this tribute means the world to him.”

Head honchos fear a backlash if they allow Chris to perform since emotions are still so strong about the Rihanna assault incident. They don’t want Chris’ drama to overshadow the networks Michael Jackson tribute.
Quote:
So we finally found out who stopped Chris Brown from performing. It was NOT Al Sharpton as rumored. Al even Tweeted that it wasn't him while he was at the awards show.

However, upon further research, it was found out that it was...Jay-Z. Yes, the man we call Hov. Crazy huh? How do I know? Let's check this out.

B. Shaw wrote on Twitter that Jay-Z basically stopped Chris Breezy from performing, saying, "Jay-Z is mad childish. Never keep a person from paying there respect."

He later Tweeted, "So Jay-Z tells BET that if chris performs that he will not perform. Ummmm........ Wait for it........WHO CARES!!!!!"
All I gotta say is, I thought last night was a BET presenation. Since when does an artist tell a TV station how to run their company?

Thoughts?

Jay-Z has a lot of pull. Plus Chris Brown got off too easy with no jail time. He needs to pay his dues in other ways.

LOL, Rihanna was Jay's artist when he was President of Def Jam. Chris Brown screwed himself over with that one!

I'm a little torn on this. On the one hand, Chris Brown is an artist that was obviously heavily influenced by Michael Jackson and capable of putting on a proper tribute. On the other hand, he beat the crap out of his ex-girlfriend and never got any jail time. I suppose I wouldn't have a problem if BET decided to not let him perform but I'm not thrilled that another artist stopped him from performing. However, Jay-Z is the most powerful person in the hip-hop community and Chris Brown will likely be blackballed by any event Jay-Z is a part of.

Usher and Justin Timberlake can do better performances to honor MJ. I'd even say Usher based all of his moves from MJ.

If BET themselves thought it would hurt the show, then that's fine, it's their choice, it's their company. But the fact that they let an artist tell them what to do is what's ridiculous on the part of BET to let themselves get bullied like that. Because if they let it happen to them, where does it stop? What if Jay-Z went to every venue, award show, radio station, restaurant, etc. Brown was about to perform at and told the owner "if he steps 1 foot in here, I will never come here again"? People are said to have more respect for Jay-Z now to have done that. I completely disagree. To me, Jay-Z has lost a lot of respect. Yeah what Chris Brown did to Rhianna was terrible, but last night wasn't about Jay-Z, it was about paying tribute to one of the greats, and Jay-Z let his ego get in the way of that, and performed a terrible song called "Death" of auto-tune. If you ask me, that was the wrong night to perform a song with a title like that.

The BET awards were first and foremost about all the artists. It wasn't until later that they revamped the show to pay tribute to MJ. Jay-Z was going to play that anyway.

It's not an ego thing he pulled, it's respect for his friend Rhianna. That's why he did it and it's an honorable thing.

Man but it's not like Rhianna was even performing that night. If she was, then it could be argued. But she didn't, only he was, and he didn't want to be on the same stage as him. How selfish is that? Like Jay-Z never did anything wrong in his life....

I remember when the WCW did the same storyline in the early 90's w/ Lex Luger, Randy Savage, and Miss Elizabeth.

Timeless stuff.

If you had helped make another artists career and then someone who did that to them was going to perform on the same show with you would you go?

Actually, Tea is right, they should have let him go then jumped him.

That doesn't matter, this wasn't Jay-Z's show, it was BET's show, they are the ones who call the shots, not the artists.

Then they should have tried to call his bluff and said we don't care. They didn't, their loss. It's BET's choice to listen or not.

Did you watch or hear about the award show last night??

As I mentioned earlier, I'm not dismissing what Chris Brown did because it was wrong. But that's not what the show was about, and that was months ago, how long are people going to keep him down because of that? Plus, his performance wasn't going to be about promoting Chris Brown, it was about paying tribute to Michael Jackson, that's what the show was about last night.

Well let's see, as a company like BET, who do I NOT want to risk upsetting?

Jay-Z >>> Chris Brown any way you spin it, any day of the week.

Please, like Jay-Z wouldn't be back next year to perform? He knows he needs to be on BET no matter how big he is. He would have done his pouting and let it go eventually.

Seriously?

You're wondering how long the public should hold him accountable for beating a woman's face in without doing any time?

I would say for the rest of his career, but that's just me.

How many people even watch BET anymore? Aaron MacGruder is right, it rots your brain.

he will always be remembered as the guy who beat the hell out of rihanna. it will haunt him forever because he wasn't established enough.

he didn't have the few decades of success MJ did before his molestation charges came into play.

these young kids, they don't realize you need a faithful group of fans BEFORE you start doing such things. Bobby brown and Whitney for example
