Default Blood Diamond PQ - excellent!!

I just watched "Blood Diamond" and I thought the PQ is excellent. Aside from POTC and maybe "Crank", "Blood Diamond" looks as good as any BD I have seen, and I have viewed at least 100 discs.

I cannot understand the disparity between what the reviewers and other BD fans saw and what I saw.

If you like this movie, I urge you to buy it.

Maybe, the excellent PQ stems from my system-dunno?

BDP-S1 via HDMI via Samsung DLP 61" output at 1080/24p.

I was expecting a bad PQ, and to my surprise it was wonderful.

Really? I've read mostly bad stuff. Haven't seen it myself. Lots of grain complaints. It was shot that way, obviously, so it wouldn't bother me much.

you know, I popped it in to see how bad it was going to be, and I wasn't dissapointed. Sure I saw a few moments of macroblocking in the begining, and a little grain in low light but this was definately HD content I was watching. I will watch the whole movie tomorrow night and report back, but so far...so good from the 5 or so minutes I let it run. And for the $13.99 I paid I can't complain!

It just goes to show that even the lowest quality movies are still pretty dang good. House of Flying Daggers is rated down as the absolute worst, but it's still a very good movie. Some of the people complaining have like a projector going to a 100" screen, stuff that can't be seen on smaller sets I'm sure.

Side question, does your Samsung manual state it supports 24p? I've got the 56" LED DLP Samsung set, and the manual says 60hz only, so I've never tried 24p.

No, my manual does not state that it supports 24p, however Samsung gave me info from there more detailed specs that it does support 24p.

One scene in the beginning exhibits some grain, other then that grain is minimal. I guess it goes to show don't believe eveything one reads.

X-Men does not even come close to Blood Diamond.... X-men was overall quiet soft while BD is popping and very vibrant.

I'd say the Blood Diamond BD is "middle of the road" for picture quality. There's far worse out there and certainly far better.

It's too bad. The master needs to be addressed because something like this really should have been a top tier PQ title all the way.

I feel the same way. I didn't think it was standout HD, but when I think about it, I don't think I've seen anything from Warner that was. The movie didn't seem to pop very much, and I don't know if that was the way it was filmed or what but I thought it was just average PQ.

Man i am happy to hear this, after reading chads review I was dissapointed. But Im sure on my 42" it will look much better if infact they are doing reviews on screens larger than 60". I dont think many people have screens that big, unless you do this for a living.

I bought it yetserday regardless of what the reviews said. I remember reading that the SDVD had horrible PQ as well and honestly I didn't think it was bad.

Also I wonder if some of the issues that are reporting with stuff like "macroblockng" could be due to their players not having the latest firmware updates?

Anyways I will watch maybe later tonught after work and see what i think of it.

Just finished watching this.
I agree that picture is low on details, are often soft and quiet inconsistant.
I think the 3-star/paw rating is fair.

But I'm still glad I got it, since I liked the film itself.

It's not the end of the world, but I hope Warner will take notes on this one and do better in the future.
