Default Player differences Sony Vs Panasonic Vs PS3

Hi. I own a Panasonic BD-35 player. I am pretty happy with it, but the one thing that I never understood is why can't it 'resume since last stop' type function with this unit when playing a Blu-ray (or can you?) as it is possible when playing a DVD on the same unit.
Here is something I was surprised about: Yesterday I went to a friends who has a Sony BDP series (don't remember model#) and I pressed play on it and it had loaded a Hellboy Blu-ray and IT DID resume from the last time that BD was stopped!

I can't believe the Panasonic wouldn't/couldn't have implemented this. I always seem to have to start over from the way beginning (with super long wait times) when I turn on my BD player the day after to continue watching something.

Does anyone know if the PS3 can resume play from a BD chapter? I own one, but it is currently disconnected these days (awaiting a new power bar).

Thanks.
