Default Using a pair of headphones instead of speakers

So, instead of using speakers for audio, would using headphones be an acceptable setup?

I was planning on getting a pair of Sennheiser HD555's for the PC that I can plug into my receiver (TrueHD and Master HD compatible) and use for Blu watching. Should the sound be fairly good? They would only do 2 channel, but they would still have a spatial effect I believe, which is good for movies nowadays.

Yay or nay?

I have to use headphones sometimes when playing video games...I use professional Sony that are very nice...It will get you by, but you don't
get the surround effect of course...

If your gonna do this my suggestion is don't skimp on the $$$ when buying them, I bought mine from Amazon and got a pretty good price...Get the
best model for the money and read the reviews...

Yeah don't get me wrong, It's unacceptable for Blu Rays unless you have to,
only time I do it is when the wife doesn't want to hear WWIII and I'm to lazy
to roll into the game room...

i do it all the time and it's perfectly acceptable. Is it as good as pumping the speakers? No, but sometimes that's just not practical and headphones are very immersing if they're of decent quality. I do most of my watching after chilluns bedtime, so what other choice do i have? Speaking of, time to go watch The Wire.

But unless you are somehow connecting to the pre-amp outputs it would be simulated or matrixed surround using the normal stereo headphone jack output. A good set of headphones like the OP has mentioned will sound great in stereo anyway, personally I think headphones can surpass high end speakers for true sound reproduction.

Sennheiser HD800's will put most speakers on this forum to shame. And as far as high end headphones go, they are affordable (smirks).

Well, I don't know if you can find any of these (perhaps on Ebay) but I own a pair and think they are awesome!

I have 555's Bought them mainly for Halo but they sound good when watching movies too, although not great and you don't have that sense of being "blown away" like with speakers.

The main issue I have is bass... or lack there of. Meaning I usually wait until I can use my speakers instead of the headset for a better audio experience.

Don't buy the 497's though! Big downgrade.
