Default The $40,000 Subwoofer

The $40,000 Subwoofer

The Haliaetus Booster subwoofer is listed for $40,000. You can match it with 5 or 7 Haliaetus Firebirds ($10,800 each) or 5 or 7 Haliaetus Blackbirds ($???). Check prices at HigherFi. You can find the technical specifications HERE.

What can I say? They are French speakers and are expected to be sexy and overpriced.

That would have to be one hell of a subwoofer to cost that much money. It would have to be able to make someone poo themselves.

Sorry, they don't say Poo in France. They say Merde.

The sub reminds me of like the fog horn you see on large freighter ships

Kind of cute looking, don't know if I'd call it sexy. Specs +/-3 25-95 Hz. So for you guys that love your infra-sonic bass, there might be a sexier way to spend $40,000+. Interesting design though.

ED should make something similar.

The details are not very impressive, especially for the amount of money they cost.

If you look at the technical specifications of most of the speakers and subwoofers that are listed on HigherFi, you will notice that they are not very impresive. However, it does not mean that they will not sound very good. That is the nature of high end audio.

Agreed, and it generally are those that are in search of that last 1-5% in SQ. Also the reason why $250,000+ turntables exist.

I like their styling. The Booster looks like the sonic cannon from The Incredible Hulk, the Firebird looks like a starship from Galaga, and the Blackbird looks like a Transformer.

looks like someone went down to o'reillys or auto zone and bought some cheap chrome tipped exhausts, like the boy racers do and stuck them on a subwoofer! now they think it goes faster....lets hope it does not sound like a ricer
