Default G4 TV : HD-DVD Propaganda

My brother was just watching G4 and they mentioned the Blockbuster announcement. The guy they were talking with said something about how he thinks that blockbuster is losing all its money to netflix and is probably getting special pricing on Blu-Ray discs. Also he said that most retailers he knew of said that HD-DVD was selling better than Blu. lol I'm curious what places he visits cause I've always seen a lot better numbers for blu-discs than hd-dvd ones.

An article in the Baltimore Sun from a few days ago http://www.baltimoresun.com/business...ck=1&cset=true
States that Blockbuster did it cause Blu sales were a lot better then hd sales. They are just catering to customer demand (intelligent demand at that!). Blu sales are up. Just see them and just see Amazon as well. HD DVD is getting more desperate and will go down swinging. Toshiba put a lot into HD DVD and will fight to protect its investment anyway it can.

Hilarious. Thankfully, I don't get the channel.

http://www.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/pos...es_BluRay.html

"In a huge blow to backers of HD-DVD, video rental store Blockbuster announced today it will stock Blu-Ray disc exclusively in the majority of its locations.

Blockbuster president Matthew Smith told the Associated Press that the decision to go with Blu-ray was because that's what the people wanted: Overwhelming customer preference for Blu-Ray titles in the test markets, accounting for over 70% of all HD discs rented.

The Blu-ray blitz is expected in mid-July, and will feature 170 titles to be distributed at 1,700 Blockbuster locations.

“We intend to meet the demands of our customers and based on the trends we’re seeing, we’re expanding our Blu-ray inventory to ensure our stories reflect the right level of products,” Blockbuster executive, Matthew Smith, said.

Sony's strategy for winning this battle was to court film company's and thus get the jump on its competition, the reasoning being that people want to watch particular movies as opposed to formats.

Is this the death rattle of HD-DVD...or does an outdated business model like Blockbuster not even matter when online retailers like Netflix (and Blockbuster's own web model) will likely offer both choices?"

Dude, the entire bunch of on screen hosts on G4's shows are being paid off by Microsoft. That idiot that reviews DVD's on Attack of the Show has absolutely no clue about anything. I stop watching that channel months ago.

Who is G4 owned by? I'm thinking that may have something to do with it.

I don't usually watch G4 much anymore, myself. My brother always loved watching things like Cheat and X-Play. Personally the hosts get on my nerves too much. I think my brother may just like watching the female hosts. :shrugs: lol

The fellas on G4 TV are equivalent to Triumph the Insult Dog.

"Blu-ray Disc for me to poop on!" is probably their favourite catchphase.

Yeah, G4 just gets worse and worse as the years progress. I used to watch Tech-TV back in the day, but when they switched to G4, I stopped watching in less than 3 months, only turning to the channel to watch Anime every once in a while. Now that the Anime is gone, I don't watch it at all...

The only show I watch on there is Ninja Warrior at like 1 am when I can't sleep. Everything else is retarded. They're ridiculously anti-Sony and very often anti-Nintendo. It's all Microsoft to them so they would obviously attack Blu-ray, or at least understate the important battles it wins.

If you want to play Kevin Bacon

G4 is owned by Comcast which is in the MGM partnership with Sony
Considering that Microsoft is horning in on their VOD business, and they have no hardware relationship with Toshiba,so much for that conspiracy theory

No, AT&T owns what is left of Comcast.

Most programming on G4 is geared towards marketing a smart-@$$ attitude image rather than accurate journalism. The writers seem to be Jimmy Kimmel rejects and every attempt to be funny usually ends up with me feeling sorry for them.

When we are backing a cause we all spread "propaganda" The fact that anyone takes anything heard from the people on G4 serious is quite humorous to me. It's targetted towards junior high/college aged boys who get some sort of jolly watching video game woman with huge boobs jumping around...Back to the thread-Who really cares what G4 is saying about HD or BD? Using "propaganda" as you put it the German people thought they were winning the war too.

Yep, same here. I started watching when they were ZDTV ('Amaze Yourself' ). I used to love Leo Laporte and I still do (even though he did pick HD-DVD to win the format war (how could you Leo?), and I'd watch The Screen Savers and Call for Help, Tech Live, Fresh Gear (ah, Sumi Das, yummy), etc. I stuck with them all through the TechTV years, but when G4 took over, that was pretty much it, That channel just sucks now. Like you, I used to only Tivo the anime, but now even that is gone, and since they completely ruined The Screen Savers by turning it into that Attack of the Show rubbish, there is no reason to watch them anymore. I can get my Next Generation and Arrested Development reruns elsewhere, thank you.
