Now that were into a few days after Michael's passing, what is creeping into your consciousness. His sad, perplexing existance? Or his Music and Magic
on stage, on discs, and on videos. Wait till we find out the toxicology results. Like Liza said, . ." all hell will break lose" . . . |

I'm glad to say thinking about Michael Jackson isn't occupying too much of my time. I've listened to a handful of his songs on my iPod while working outside, and watched a few of his music videos over the past few days, but I'm not exactly having deep thoughts about him.

I beg to differ. Your only thoughts are the music and videos. Which video? Thriller? Beat It? Mozart was also a basket case. But centuries later the world keeps alive the MUSIC not the craziness of his life. Will MJ come up 200 years from now? |

Michael Jackson was by far the most famous of the Jackson 5, he will be remembered 30-50 years from now. Not sure how much longer after that he'll be remembered, since that's about the time my generation will start dying off.

franklin...you sound EXACTLY like an old member on here
[Show spoiler] ![]() ![]() i'm also a little unclear as to what you're asking though...i think jackson's music will live on for a long time...i personally never really listened to it, but i can easily see how it will have a huge place in music and pop culture history. |

Still unclear as to what you are actually asking for. I enjoyed his music from the Off the Wall and Thriller days, but that's it. In my opinion, he's done nothing since then artistically. His deranged behavior (and not his music) over the past 20 years has kept him in and out of the public eye, which to me has seriously overshadowed his past accomplishments.
Oh, he'll be remembered for his mega-stardom in the mid-80's. You can't take that away from him. |

He will without a doubt go down as the greatest pop artist of all time. people will always have their opinions, but without MJ music would look and sound a lot different these days. i think it's safe to say most if not all individual artists (both male and female) for pop, r&b, etc. were inspired by MJ.
I think it's more amazing that he reached so many people without the help of youtube, music "sharing" sites, etc. his music reached the entire world in a time where we had to catch him on the radio, tv, or better yet, rush out and buy his latest CASSETTE (lol) or CD. I remember when his videos premiered, my entire family would huddle around the tv and watch his new videos. I will never forget watching "Black or White," and the PHONE CALLS (gasp what are those??) that followed. "ZOMG did you see the new MJ video? SO RAD!!" I remember when I was a little kid and all of us tried to impersonate MJ, especially Thriller. MJ is not for everyone. To pass him off as "just another celebrity" is false in my opinion. He set the bar for all pop artists to follow and nobody has come close to reaching his originality or talent. His music always brought joy to my life and still continues...whenever I roll with my brothers in their Acura, we blast "Don't Still Til You Get Enough." One of the most fun catchy songs!! How can you not sing along to that?? haha It's unfortunate he had a dark side to his life. We all saw the tabloids and are all well aware of what he has been accused of. Let's also keep in mind, this kid was in the spotlight from when he was 5 years old! We have seen what childhood fame has done to several others. It's easy for us to sit back and judge while none of us will ever experience what it's like to have the entire world watching us. I'm not saying his dark side is acceptable in any way, I'm merely saying that childhood fame has destroyed several lives. |

I think he was great, definitely deserved the King of Pop title (even if he gave it to himself), and will be remembered for decades to come. I just don't care to spend my time analyzing his life or his death, and getting too caught up in someone else's affairs. To me he was an entertainer, and I'll continue to be entertained by him. But I won't bother reading every news article about his death, or look too far into his personal life. That being said, here's my 5 minute analysis of his personal issues: For the record, I don't know any of the evidence in his case from a few years ago, but I suspect nobody else here does either, yet that doesn't stop them from drawing conclusions on his guilt. That being said, I'd assume he never did anything illegal to any children. Was he a bit weird, and did he like hanging out with kids? Yeah, and yeah. But that doesn't mean he did anything inappropriate with them. Once he settled with the first kid for $20 million, it opened the doors to more lawsuits, from anyone else who thought they could make up a lie and get money out of him. He was found innocent in his trial, yet so many people still seem to think he did it. Now do you see why he'd rather just pay people off? People will think you're guilty either way, but at least settling out of court would avoid some of the publicity of going to trial, not to mention save a lot of time and stress. If the parents of the original kid really think he did it, then they're the worst parents in the world for accepting a $20 million settlement, rather than sending MJ to jail. And if Jackson did do it, then anyone who subsequently let their kids hang out at Jackson's ranch are also among the worst parents in the world, and should be locked up for child endangerment. |
