Taiwan Death Note & Death Note - The Last Name

Death Note
Death Note - The Last Name

Both released by Pony Taiwan. Specs claim Japanese DD 5.1, but that may or may not be accurate. Appears to have no extras. Unknown Region Coding or BD size (BD25 or BD50). English subs.

Have you seen L? I've heard that it's not that great, wondering if it's worth seeing?

I liked it, it doesn't really follow the first two films in a way. It's more about preventing/try to foil a terrorist attack.

EDIT:
I am totally lost on the shipping cost for this site. How much is it to the US?

For a single disc I had the option between air mail for $4 and a express option that cost around $15

I was wondering if there would ever be an english dubbed blu-ray release for these movies? I have the DVDs and absolutely love them, but I can't seem to convince myself to buy the TW version with english subtitles.

You would have to wait for Viz to start releasing Blu-rays and they haven't shown any interest in it yet.

Has VIZ even done a Blu-ray release yet? I don't think they have. I just read that they got the rights to K20 which is one I've been wanting to finish watching since I left Hawaii back last May. The movie was on one of the airplane channels to watch movies on, but the video kept going out on me so I was like; "DAMN!"

The UK is getting this release soon. Its been delayed by a month or so since its first date which I think was September.

I was going to pick up the import but I think its best to get the UK version.

Why? With the current sale on JSDVD, these are like $6 each + shipping and I seriously doubt that PQ is going to be any better on the UK version as Taiwan Blu looks to be the rip of the Japanese Blu-ray.

Watched both of these last night. Good discs, only some minor issues with black level fluctuation.

I enjoyed the movies, but was annoyed with the director's constant need to move the plot along by dialogue. Ironic considering it's the same critique I have for the film this movie beat when it was released in Japanese theatres, The DaVinci Code.

I would have preferred...
[Show spoiler]If his devolving mental state was better explained, perhaps through more debates with Shiori or perhaps other law students, maybe even his father. The whole "God of Death" thing seemed like a plot device more than another character.

These kind of blu's are hard to trade in the UK. I would rather have the UK blu which I can trade quite easily in a store rather than ebay.

Didn't realize this thread exists until moments ago... anyway, got both of these Taiwanese BDs, and I think the PQ is fine on both. Having said that, without any extra features / behind the scene stuff bugs me a little bit, and am thinking whether I should double dip on the US double features version just for the extras. What do you guys think?

The UK one is also an option. 4 disc. Although how many of those are Blus...
