I'm looking to bypass the internal amplifiers of my Marantz SR6003 by adding a multichannel amplifier, but I'm not sure which manfacturer and model would mate best with my receiver.
I would prefer a 5.1/7.1 model, but I certainly might consider two stereo amps or a three channel model to power my front three channels and let the receiver power my two surround speakers. My budget is ~$1500 maximum, preferably less. I've found that the Marantz MM8003 has received auspicious reviews, and I've seen it on eBay for $1500, but I'm not so sure that I'm prepared to devote such a large expenditure for an item with no warranty. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks! |

It's tough to find a new AMP of any quality for $1500.
I am in the market for my 2 channel system and I have a similar budget ($2000 or less). But again that is for 2 channels. I have found some good products that come close to your budget: Wyred 4 Sound: Great AMP for the money. This is Class D B&O technology (powerful, easy on the PG&E bill, and runs very cool). You can buy a 5 channel now and then add the other two channels when you are ready. http://www.wyred4sound.com/ B&K Audio http://www.bkcomp.com/ Check out the reference 200.7 (Great product). Also check out Anthem (www.anthemav.com). They have some outstanding products for the money. I am sure that others will tell you to check out Emotiva. Sunfire makes some great stuff. I run Sunfire in my home theater (TGA-5400) and it is a terrific amp that runs very cool and has endless power. Unfortunately Sunfire does not seem to offer a 2 channel amp. Personally I am leaning to the Wyred 4 Sound for my 2 channel system (only because it runs the coolest and is the most green of all the amps (along with Rotel class D and Sunfire). However, if you asked me yesterday I wanted the Anthem Statement A2. And last week I was ready to go for the B&K (this is really the best deal for a well made US amp). I have a quote to pay $1300 including shipping and tax for the Reference 200.2. Well hopefully that helps a little. From here amp products start climbing into the $4000 plus range.
