Post Flags of Our Fathers or Letters from Iwo Jima?

I have both Clint Eastwood's Flags of Our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima on Blu-ray. I have watched them both and they were both really good! For anyone who has both of these, I'd like to ask this: Which of these two companion pieces do you consider to be the best one overall: Flags of Our Fathers (from the Americans' point of view) or Letters from Iwo Jima (from the Japanese point of view)?

Personally, they're both really good. But if I had to choose one, I'd go with Flags of Our Fathers.

Default Letters is less biased

Letters shows the side of WWII that is usually not seen in other films.

Only saw Letters and it was awesome, but I heard the two films really go together. Get both.

Letters is an excellent film, While Flags is a good one. My personal opinion...go for LOIJ!

From my perspective (north of the border) I found "Letters" to be much more powerful. Of course I am biased, and have always been wary of too much flag waving (US or otherwise). Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed "Flags", and it didn't cross the line from patriotism to nationalism, but I preferred delving into the struggle of individual humanity depicted in "Letters"; it seemed much more honest and real.

LETTERS for me. FLAGS was good and all that, but something was missing from it for some reason. I can't put my finger on it, but it was just off. But LETTERS is one of the most elegant and powerful war films I've ever seen. While Eastwood has always been a character driven director who has a very somber and methodical directing style, it really seemed to fit the Japanese side of the story more than the U.S. side. Maybe due to the fact that Japanese cinema is very much like their literature and the haiku's they're famous for. Very spartan and internal.

So yes, I prefer LETTERS over FLAGS.

I voted for Letters. Flags was very good but I felt like I had seen the characters before. Letters brought a fresh new perspective into the war.

I voted for Flags of Our Fathers, which may not be fair as I could only
watch about half of Letters From Iwo Jima. I didn't like it at all. So
much for a Poll. Especially when we have easy access to the real
measure-----------Box office.

Flags of Our Fathers --production budget $90 Million
Box Office: Domestic: $33.6 Million, Foreign $32.3 = $66 Million
Worldwide . Opening weekend $10.2

Letter From Iwo Jima---production budget $19 Million
Box Office: Domestic: $13,756,082, Foreign: $54,917,146
= Worldwide: $68,673,228. Opening weekend in December
$90, 000. Reissued in February for Academy bounce $1.7 Million.

I expect disc sales reflect the same. Just a guess.

I didn't care too much for Flags of our Fathers. It was an OK movie - just didn't hit the spot for me.

I have Letters from I.J., and it's fairly decent. It puts a very interesting spin on "the other side." I wouldn't go so far as to say this is one of my favorite WWII movies - but I'm glad I purchased it as it does have rewatch value to me.

I prefer Letters. It had a much better story than Flags. Both were well-done but Flags dragged on with the whole war bonds campaign.
