Default Bass Testing.

Heres how you piss your wife off. Download a subwoofer/ bass testing CD at 11pm at night and play it as loud as you can. I have a moderate sub at best, i cant even imagine what this would sound like on some of your systems. It made every window in my house rattle so bad i swore they were gonna break. Are these CD's dangerous to play on systems? Please some of you people with subs that make mine look like a joke, do yourself a favor download one of these and enjoy!!!!

  1. The idea of doing something to piss off yor wife is not a good idea.
  2. Yes, if you play the sound too loud, particularly for a lower-end subwoofer, you can blow the driver.
  3. You should be more concerned about damage to your hearing rather than damage to your system.
  4. It is also possible to break the windows and get shot by the neighbors. Please turn the volume down.

The following paraphrase is from one of Big Daddy's sticky's about standing waves and room modes, included are 3 links to use:

Quote:
Using an SPL Meter and Test Tones: It is more accurate to use an SPL meter and low frequency test tones. You can buy a digital or an analog SPL meter from Radio Shack for less that $50. If you do not know how to use an SPL meter, read the thread on Calibrating Your Audio with an SPL Meter, Sticky Under Receiver Discussion.

You can download free test tone generators from the following sites:

http://www.cleansofts.com/softdownlo...Generator.html
http://www.nch.com.au/tonegen/index_b.html

Post #2 of Understanding & Using Test Tones has all the links. It has a sticky in Audio Section.

Check the following sites for a list of movies with good bass sound to test your subwoofer.

Yes, even Big Daddy knows when to turn the volume down.

Thank god my house is too far away from the neighbors and our HT room is not close to the bedroom where my wife sleeps. The best time for me to enjoy loud music or movies is at 3:00 am.
