Default Winning strategy for Sony (Blu-ray)?

It's not really a secret that PS3 is selling under it's actual price. Yet I think that an extra rebate could be the winning strategy for Sony (PS3, Blu-ray)

Buy a PS3 and get a free 'next generation high definition' movie of your choise.

And if they are smart they'll advice the other producers of movies ahead of time. I could easily see them hurry a lot of movies the the Blu-ray format. Think about it. How many HD-DVD + Blu-ray movies do you think they are selling in an average month?
If Sony actually did this at the opening in Europe (in March as far as i recall) how many movies do you think they could 'sell' in a month.

And what's far more important. It will open the eyes of the potential custommers for Blu-ray.

I think we're going to start to see some "dumbed down" blu-ray players similar to the A2. No analog out, missing features and low price. Except they will work properly unlike the A1.

Well the Samsung is now $569 on Amazon.
I hope they don't dumb down any of the players. Blu-ray's audio and video integrity should never be dumbed down.

Well, - I was talking about bundling a movie, - not a player.

The main idea is:

* To make people see that their new PS3 is actually also a next generation high definition "dvd" player

Launch (500k) PS3s included a 25gb copy of Talladega Nights.

Subsequent consoles have an advert and a coupon pack for 10$ rebate on alot of different blu ray titles.

Something like that!

I don't know how many HD televisions Sony are selling, - but giving a free Blu-ray movie to these customers might be a very good idea too.
It signals that the screen is 'good enough for the next generation high definition thing', - and it tells what that 'next generation high definition thing' is. I wouldn't be to surprised if people went back to buy a player for there disc. Just to see what the screen can do when it does it's best.

Go to VGcharts.org instead. They don't lie about the current statistics.

Nice to see that they are listening to my advise.
They even give five movies with a PS3 in the US now...

Looks like you were right. But it would have eventually come down to this.
Marketing wise!

A better bet might be for Sony/the other manufacturers to offer say... a $150 voucher to go towards the purchase of any BD player along with any of their HDTV's.
In a few months, assuming the price of players will be from 399-499 bucks, that could make the players seriously tempting at prices like $249 and $299 bucks. Especially if you've just got a new HDTV.

Throw in a couple of free blurays with the player and you've got yourself a winner .
