Default How to clean a speaker grille?

How do you clean a grille? Two of my speakers spent a good amount of time piled in the house and they're grilles are full of dust, it now looks kind of brownish/grey instead of black. How can I remove the dust?

Take the grill off and use an air compressor, not on full blast, a light amount of pressure will be good.

I was even thinking of using the hand sprayer (I don't know the exact name of the thing) at a kitchen sink, if you used it lightly and dry it, that should work too.

I've also heard of people using the cans of air that you use to clean computer keyboards, but the lint roller is probably the best idea.

Or use a vacuum with the brush attachment. I've used that in the past when I had cat hair on the bottom edge.

The lint roller sounds like a good idea, too, though.

I use three methods. First the nylon bristle brush. It's a quick and easy way to clean a speaker grille. However if our white cat (fittingly named White Cloud) in all his royal cattiness decides to leave his scent on one of my C-300 towers speaker grilles after cattily strolling by it, his white fur doesn't easily come off with the brush. So the brush idea isn't a purrrrfect solution.

So after making a short story long, the best thing I've found that effectively removes lint, cat fur, and whatever else that might get on the grilles is the lint roller. It really does the job, especially for removing white fur from the grilles.

Compressed air works quite well for removing fine dust particles that can get trapped in the grille that the lint roller misses. If you live in a dry dusty region like Arizona, fine dust particles do make their way into the home. The grilles act like filters removing the dust from the air. What I do is remove the grille and use compressed air to blow the dust out from the inside or speaker side of the grille.

They all work some better than others for particular jobs.

Edit: The previous post mentioned vacuum brush. Yes I forgot to mention that. Cute that he mentioned having a cat while I was composing my comments.

Some great ideas here! Thanks! However, I still dread dusting and cleaning my speaker grills. An evil that must be done though!

Take the grills off and spray them down sparingly front and back with shout stain remover. Rinse in the shower or with a garden hose. Sit them upright somewhere on top of a folded towel to dry. Once the top of the grill is dry flip it upside down so the bottom will dry faster. This method will beat out every other method mentioned above.
