Default Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Live Anthology coming soon

Tom Petty has announced through his official website the upcoming release of 'The Live Anthology', a collection which brings together 62 songs from 1978-2007 culled from hundreds of hours of live recordings. The deluxe box set of this compilation will include a high-resolution Blu-Ray audio disc featuring all tracks in both stereo and 5.1 surround sound, with "256 times more audio resolution than a CD".

The set will also include:
  • A five-CD set
  • Two previously unreleased DVDs including the 1978 New Year's Eve concert from Santa Monica, CA and the Martyn Atkins documentary 400 Days shot during the recording and tour for Wildflowers
  • A remastered vinyl of the 1976 Official Live Leg bootleg
Release date is to be determined.

MOD: I just realized this was an audio disc, not video. Feel free to move over to the Blu-Ray HQ Music forum.

Sounds neat. It'll depend on the price more than anything.

Me too. Put on a great performance when he was here last. Brought out Stevie Nicks for a couple of songs. Totally surprised the audience.

It's $99.99 at Best Buy right now, and it's a Best Buy exclusive for this set.

Also avaliable for $149 is the 7LP vinyl version.

Unboxing photos of the Deluxe Edition. Unfortunately, the BD audio disc only comes in a cardboard slipcase.

So far, I've listened to an hour and half of the BD, and all of the CDs. The BD audio is great, but may not be the absolute best-sounding thing you've ever heard. It is live audio, after all. All of the songs seamlessly blend into each other, even though they are from different shows. It does display information about each song as it begins, and then there is a screensaver-type display of the album artwork.
The packaging, and the contents are outstanding.

Finally...finally, finally...after all these years...ruining my life waiting for the music industry to do Blu-Ray and to do it right...whilst it does not have film...audially...it is right...finally. Thank you God, thank you. Finally. I cannot wait...I could loose a few thousand dollars replacing my music collection with this stuff...I just hope they do great packaging...something more and bigger than compact discs so that you can see the artwork better...I'm all for the size being like vinyl...just something better and longer lasting than cardboard...finally. Finally.

The Neil Young box set did not use Blu-Ray this way right? He had a box set of Blu-Ray where each disc was replaced with a Blu-Ray disc. Everything wasn't on one disc...THIS is how it should be done like the Heartbreaker one.
