Default Where will the next big push in Blu marketshare come from?

We've seen a decent uptick in blu ray's share of the market after the recent discount with walmart and elsewhere's $99 players.

But where will the next big move come from? The PS3 slim and reduction in price? The PS4 or XBOX 720 having Blu ray playability? Or will we see some further reductions in player or disc prices sooner than that? Give me your thoughts blu fans.

It will come from the industry itself--if/when they see Blu-ray alone as a more profitable endeavor than Blu-ray/DVD combined. At that point, they will load up BDs with many more extras, extended/directors' cuts, etc. While DVDs will be very bare-boned offerings.

ok, I was looking for something more tangible, an event that you can look at and say that this is what caused an increase in market share.

The only "events" that come to mind are Holiday price reductions and Super Bowl TV w/free blu-ray player promotions. I'm sure it'll be a big ticket item for Black Friday deals.

I don't think there will be a next big thing. A cheaper PS3 might help. But the pieces are all already in place: HDTV, HD gaming, and the digital broadcast transition. If anything, it's just a protracted wide adoption--particularly in the current economic climate--that may be a barrier.

A cheaper PS3 will have a significant effect on the Blu-ray market. As the most widely available Blu-ray machine on the planet, it helps to push the market bigger if more people are BD-capable. A major catalog announcement like Star Wars or Indiana Jones would also be helpful.

I think a cheaper PS3 will be big along with other great deals at the holidays.

For me it all started with my PS3. Within a week I went out and got a 40 lcd tv and haven't looked back since.

Some nice, pristine, single-disc LotR:EE iterations couldn't hurt either. Not sure if it's technically possible, though.

Do the players even use 45nm chips yet? And why are the players so big....when regular dvd players are walkman sized.

Time will be the next big push. Give Blu-ray some time. It's only been about one year format war free. A minor push may be 3D.

Avatar extended edition in 3D and normal versions (2 BD50s) released 2 months before the DVD edition, and with exclusive content.

After that, the release of Star Wars Box Set the "Ultimate High Definition edition", end of 2010.

Not height-wise but width wise my DVD recorder is bigger than my PS3 and just as heavy. My PS2 isn't much bigger than my PSP though.

What about the XBOX 720? Is that supposed to debut in 2010/2011?

Is it presumed that the next Xbox will have Blu-ray definitely? I can only imagine the licensing fees that Sony will demand if M$ seeks to use that technology.

No. But it would have a comparatively souped up hardware....and it would be like a sportscar using some B-grade tires. MS is already hurting by having to have multiple discs .....just imagine how obnoxious this would be wit the next gen games

While nothing is confirmed, MS is pushing the 360 as a "media center" rather than just a "gaming device." It would seem foolish to not include Blu-ray playback in their next console.

As far as licensing fees, why would Sony charge higher fees to allow MS to use their technology than any other manufacturer? Yes, it would force MS to charge a little more for the 360 successor. However, think about how many more people will become BD owners (or at least get a second BD player). Sony would then benefit from higher software sales.

Microsoft's opposition is probably more so with Sun Java than it is with Blu-ray.
