Default Best TV to buy with a $1200 cap.

I'm looking to upgrade my dinky 19" Insignia room TV to something bigger and better since I'm moving out of my current apartment and into a double I'll be using as a single. That means I won't have my room mates 42in Westington in my main room anymore.

I have no clue what to start out on and I don't want to go crazy yet so I'm putting a cap on myself at $1200 and ideally just want to instead stay around the $800-$1200 range. I've noticed so many wide ranges of price and size etc which just made me realize I need some help.

The best bang for you buck will most likely be a plasma. You can get a 50" 720p Panasonic for around $1,000.

What size range are you looking for? DLP, LCD or plasma?

Im not sure on the size. I do know I don't want to go below 40in really and would like a higher end of the scale in 40in to 50in. I'm also not sure about where to go, DLP's worry me about the whole rainbow effect and my friend recently bought a really nice Sony Bravia, don't know what kind, and when we were watching a movie on it during the opining sequence/credits it switched from scenery to black credits for a while and the tv had problems with that and its adjusting for its black levels so thats got me all confused.

If you have a Sams Club card, you can get a 42 inch Panasonic plasma for $650 and a 50 inch for $800.

Sears usually has prices that are pretty close to the Sams prices. You can not price match since technically they have different mode numbers, but for all intents and purposes, they're the same televisions.

Stick with 1080p. If not, you'll just find yourself wishing you had in six months.

If you absolutely can't breach the $1200 mark, buy this one.

46" Panasonic G10 - $1170 shipped

But if you can convince yourself to stretch it, buy this one and you will be happy for a very, very long time.

50" Panasonic G10 - $1295 shipped

These displays are the affordable ones everyone's talking about. You won't be disappointed with either one...but for only $125 disparity, you'd be absolutely insane to buy the 46" IMHO.

Actually, the 'warehouse models' are not the same displays...at least, not in the case of Panasonic.

For $95 more, go with the G10 I posted.

The S1 is a good set, but if the V10 is the King, the G10 is easily the Prince, and for only $95, it's a no-brainer.

Yes, you are correct. The Sams version lacks a third HDMI input and the panel may be a different one than in the standard one, but outside of that, they're pretty much the same from my understanding. But you also get a lifetime return policy. So it kind of evens out.

But I've seen the X1 at Sears for around $650-$700. It's 720p, but at 42 inches, you won't be able to tell any difference from normal viewing distances. Save a few bucks and buy some Blu-Ray's. But of course if you want 1080p, the 42 inch G10 can be had for around $1,000.

I feared having to go back into the belly of that beast ever since I stopped working there but I figured I would have to check out there TV deals with all the ones I helped customers carry out of the stores.

I was wondering if anyone knew anything about the Samsung LN40B550 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV with Red Touch of Color because its listed on amazon for 899 and it pretty much seems like a steal but I don't know, any opinion?

It seems others are also checking out this olimek.com site, and it's looking like they're a scam site.

Most times, if it seems too good to be true, it is.

You'd be happier with an equally-priced plasma.

Edit: 42" Panasonic G10 - $960 shipped

From what I've read, the sight is a scam. Remember, if the deal seems too good to be true, it most likely is. There's not much on the Web, which tells me the site is new. Here's what I've found:
