It's not their first. Close encounters of the Third kind has a DTS-HD MA track as well.

While Sony has officialy made the move to DTS HD-MA has Paramount made it official? Or is this based on a select few titles using the codec like Warner using DTS HD-MA for Watchmen?

I would say Sony is official as it already announced more than 1 title with DTS-HD Master Audio :

Night Of The Creeps
The Craft
Angels And Demons

I expect that Taking Of Pelham 1-2-3 will also carry DTS-HD Master Audio although not officialy announced.

As for Paramount it's not official they are going with DTS-HD Master Audio exclusively but recent announcements are made with this codec.

I'm not a DTS-HD MA fanboy here, lossless is lossless, but I'm glad that a "Standard" is being formed. Makes it easier for later generations to be as glitch free as possible.

This has pretty much been confirmed by Penton in the insider threads. Seeing as Paramount will be releasing some titles in DTSMA, seems to indicate they may be changing, however some of their announced titles are also TRUEHD. The question is Warner? While most of their titles are being announced TRUEHD, we know Watchmen was DTSMA as is the announced Lord Of The Rings trilogy.

Watchmen was DTS HD-MA because it made the maximum movie mode easier to encode.

And Paramount is still using Dolby TrueHD. Just some titles are encoded in DTS-HD MA.

As to how I feel about that, indifferent would be the word I'd use. It's still lossless audio that's not a space hog like PCM and that's all that matters.

I can't figure why this would be the case. Can you explain why this would be, or are you just baselessly speculating?

No offical announcement, but the switch appears to have been made. The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 is also DTS-HD Ma. https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/movies.php?id=6742

Not sure there is any one thing that Dolby had done, but i've no doubt that DTS has been very aggressive in promoting the values of DTSMA. I personally see their advantage as having the core track inside the DTSMA bitstream, that way it serves both the lossless and lossy communities with the best available and saves a separate legacy encode.
