Default Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding

Hey guys,
I am looking into the mountain of options that are out there for receivers and was wondering your thoughts on Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding. I think i saw mentioned in a CNET article that they really aren't noticing a big difference between the HD decoding and just the regular Standard Dolby Digital and DTS decoding. I recently bought a new Samsung Tv and LG bluray player and now I need a good receiver, but cannot spend too much. If there really is a big difference then maybe I will save up for a bit. I also have another question and feel stupid for asking but I can't figure this out. I currently have some cheap zenith surround sound speakers that worked great and will do just fine for now. (They were part of an old dvd player/surround sound package that I had) They just have the wires hanging off the back. In other words they are just plain split wires and I would stick one side into a positive and the other side into a negative connector on the back of my old player. I cannot figure out what this is called? I would like to know because I have seen a few receivers that look to have that feature. I'm sure it will be phased out soon. I hope I made that understandable?
