In a surprise move Walmart is no longer selling 4:3 or 16:9 HDTV Tube CRT screens. If you want a HDTV display your choices are limited to Plasma, LCD, and rear projection screens while shopping at Walmart. As far as I am aware Samsung is the only company still making HDTV tube TV’s which can be found at Best Buy and Circuit City. Soon most likely within a year or two no company will be making a HDTV tube CRT TV anymore.
I am disappointed that Walmart and most manufactories have only decided to make low cost 480I SDTV Tube CRT screens. For example Walmart use to sale nationwide the Sanyo HT30746 30 inch Widescreen HDTV Tube CRT with HDMI input for $399. Now Sanyo has discontinued that exclusive product for Walmart and has came out with a Sanyo HT30547 480I SDTV 30 inch Widescreen with no HDMI input for $357. We are talking about a difference of $42 between a SDTV tube CRT and a Tube HDTV CRT set. Has the world gone so crazy that price is more important then quality? This was such a bad business decision by Walmart and Sanyo. Most people would pay $42 more for a HDTV display with HDMI over a standard 480I display with no HDMI.
The day is coming when the only CRT tube TV on the market will be cheap SDTV 480I only displays. Every product that has a NTSC tuner also contains an ATSC Digital tuner now but the low income consumer is limited to 480I quality SDTV CRT screens when shopping at Walmart. When the day comes when the LCD display can be made cheaper then the CRT tube display then no company will be making CRT screens at all anymore. That might happen in about 5 years from now.

There's still a lot of good reasons to buy a tube TV. For starters, their PQ is still better than any of the flats or even rear pro, although not by much. Secondly, if you have small kids then it can be a real shame if they accidentally toss a My Little Pony through your plasma (hey, stuff happens... you parents know what I mean). And also, their response time is near zero, so they make for great gaming displays.

All that said, I would NEVER buy one anymore. I am perfectly happy with my 50" Sony SXRD thankyouverymuch!

The main disadvantage of consumer HDTV tube TV’s besides the weight and large rear is the fact that none of them can display true 2 million pixel resolutions of 1920 X 1080 I or P. That is why no tube TV has a 1080P label since displays that are labeled as 1080P are required to display 1920 X 1080 in resolution. The best 1080I tube TV’s on the market have resolutions of only around 1300 X 1080 interlace resolution.
That being said the average tube TV has a contrast ratio of 50,000:1. In about another two years possible Plasma, LCD, and rear projector displays will start having 50,000:1 contrast ratios or higher. Today nothing beats the contrast ratio of CRT screens.

I'm not really surprised by this simply because WalMart can peddle these super cheap, no name LCD screens and make more of a profit on those. Tube is dead.

I love my Sony KD34XBR960, but I wouldn't mind having a bigger screen myself and yes, it's pretty damned bulky. (Although it's not as bulky as you might expect or as bulky as older CRT tubes.)

But if you're going to have some kind of 150-200 lb. set in your house...you may as well have a lot to show for it, yes?

My first HDTV was a 30" 16:9 Toshiba CRT. It was crap. I sold it for half of what I paid for it, 15 months later.

This does not surprise me at all. Just a matter of time and you won't be able to find tube tv's.
