Disney has a self proclaimed list of Animation Masterpieces. Many are, but some seem questionable. I want to get a good collection of the Masterpieces and I'm looking at the list and cherry picking which one's I will get when released (I remember buying some of the others on VHS and never watching them).
So, just wondering which are on your "must own" list (again, this is a list from Disney-many animated films are not included, including Pixar films and the live action/animation combos). My opinion is listed next to each film... 1. Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs (Yes) 2. Pinocchio (Yes) 3. Fantasia (Yes) 4. Dumbo (Yes) 5. Bambi (Yes) 6. Saludos Amigos (No) 7. The Three Caballeros (No) 8. Make Mine Music (No) 9. Fun And Fancy Free (No) 10. Melody Time (No) 11. The Adventures Of Ichabod And Mr. Toad (No) 12. Cinderella (Yes) 13. Alice In Wonderland (Yes) 14. Peter Pan (Yes) 15. Lady And The Tramp (Yes) 16. Sleeping Beauty (Yes) 17. 101 Dalmatians (Yes) 18. The Sword In The Stone (Undecided-Leaning No) 19. The Jungle Book (Yes) 20. The Aristocats (Undecided-Leaning No) 21. Robin Hood (Undecided-Leaning No) 22. The Many Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh (Undecided-Leaning Yes) 23. The Rescuers (Undecided-Leaning No) 24. The Fox And The Hound (Undecided-Leaning No) 25. The Black Cauldron (No) 26. The Great Mouse Detective (No) 27. Oliver & Company (Undecided-Leaning No) 28. The Little Mermaid (Yes) 29. The Rescuers Down Under (No) 30. Beauty And The Beast (Yes) 31. Aladdin (Yes) 32. The Lion King (Yes) 33. Pocahontas (Yes) 34. The Hunchback Of Notre Dame (Yes) 35. Hercules (Yes) 36. Mulan (Yes) 37. Tarzan (Undecided-Leaning Yes) 38. Fantasia/2000 (Undecided-Leaning No) 39. The Emperor's New Groove (No) 40. Atlantis: The Lost Empire (No) 41. Lilo And Stitch (Undecided-Leaning Yes) 42. Treasure Planet (No) 43. Brother Bear (No) 44. Home On The Range (No) Curious about other's opinions as to which are "Must Haves". Looks like I'll be snagging 20-23 of these. Oh my poor wallet... |

All of them -- even the worst of them (Home on the Range, Brother Bear, The Sword in the Stone, Oliver and Co., Robin Hood) have some shred of merit.
The Blu-Ray releases of Pinocchio and Sleeping Beauty define extraordinary. I know it's a foolish dream, but I wish all of the American hand drawn animated features would receive that treatment for posterity (without the audio errors, naturally). I fear it is a dying art form, even if Lasseter is doing CPR on it at Disney. |

Aladdin
Beauty and the Beast Mulan The Little Mermaid The Lion King Maybe for all. It's unlikely I'd watch any of them more than once, and that'd be for nostalgia (I saw maybe half of that list growing up). If I take the tack of buying them for future children that's a different story, but that's some pretty expensive early planning. Basically I'm not in a hurry to own any of these, but Disney's irritating vault system (obsolete now, and a good way to make sure this style dies since the movies aren't around to defend themselves) may force my hand. I didn't buy any of Disney's work on DVD so I definitely will be buying quite a few of them:
Already Have: - Sleeping Beauty - Pinocchio Definitely Buying: - Snow White - Fantasia - Dumbo - Cinderella - Alice in Wonderland - Peter Pan - Lady and The Tramp - 101 Dalmations - The Jungle Book - Robin Hood - The Little Mermaid - Beauty and the Beast - Aladdin - The Lion King - Hercules - Tarzan Might Pick-up - Bambi - The Rescuers - Pocahontas - The Hunchback of Notre Dame - The Emperor's New Groove - Atlantis: The Lost Empire - Lilo and Stich I doubt I will be buying any of the other listed there. Some of them I would just buy to have in the old collection them but some of them are true classics that I will watch again & again |

I would be leaning towards all of them (pre Little Mermaid ) and scattered ones after, but only if they are complete and unedited unlike the recent versions of Make Mine Music and Fun and Fancy Free that were on DVD.
(The case said complete but when you started the disc it said they were altered from the original theatrical versions). It's the same crap Disney pulled with the Muppet Shows and The Tick. |

You know if they make them all look as good as they have done so far, they I will get most if not all of them. I cant wait to see the Two Fantasia Films, Alice in Wonderland, and Hunchback of Notre Dame. They will all surely look and sound fantastic.

I just love most of Disney's movies, SO glad Beauty and the Beast is coming out next year and definitely looking forward to all the other ones on my list. Too bad we don't have a release calendar for all of them.
