Disney announces "The Rock" and "Con Air" for release on January 8th, 2008 - Blu-ray Forum

As we've previously reported, 'The Rock' was originally announced for a June 5 Blu-ray debut alongside 'Con Air' and 'Crimson Tide.' All three titles were subsequently delayed with no new date in sight.

A full seven months later, Disney has finally rescheduled the Sean Connery/Nicolas Cage actioner for Blu-ray release on January 8, 2008.

No supplemental details yet, but the disc's tech specs shouldn't have any trouble delivering the typical Bay bombastic, boasting 1080p video and an uncompressed PCM 5.1 surround track (at 48kHz/24-bit).

Retail will list for $29.99.

Disney says we can expect a full press release with complete details for 'The Rock' shortly. As always, we'll keep you posted.

In the meantime, you'll find preliminary disc details for 'The Rock' linked from our Blu-ray Release Schedule, where it is indexed under its new date of January 8, 2008.

BTW both are advertised as 24bit in UK, but they are 16bit track. I'am pretty sure it will be the exact same disc..

AQ is 4.0/5 PCM uncompressed

I dont think the US region 1 disc will be any better. Only downfall is I paid $40 including shipping for it. One of the best movies ever! And you dont have to wait 3 months to get it.

man the case for the movie is thick!!they use the same size case as the ps3 games but in blu

Looking forward to these two. Now if we can only get a release date for sin city, kill bill 1 and 2!! Come one Disney, you know you want to make some money so lets get them out in January too.

January is already shaping up to be a really strong month:
War
shoot'em up
conn air
the rock
Resident evil trilogy(still hasnt been announced by sony yet)

These are only movies for the first 2 weeks of the month, there will def be plenty more coming!!!!! i hope
