Default How does the Warner release of The Prestige look?

I am considering picking up the movie in Australia to have more Christopher Nolan movies in my collection and the trailer/reviews look great. So did Warner give us a DNR and EE transfer? It sucks that it is only Dolby Digital Plus though.

I have it... It's not bad...

but I've read many times that it is not considered to be as good as the American Disney release that is region free

The Japanese release is spectacular, also. I have the HD DVD and it is TrueHD, I assume the BD is as well.

No, the US is not region free - it's locked to A...

I have both the German Warner and the US Disney release. PQ is great on both discs (I could not say which is better, but didn't do a direct comparison either). But I would recommend the US disc anyway because of the lossless PCM track - the Warner disc comes with a DD track only. (but again, I also didn't do a direct comparison between the DD and the PCM track - I just like to own the disc with the better technical specs...)

The UK Warner release is a typical Warner smoothie, with the usual glossy look and lack of bite in the image detail. If you like that look, you'll be fine with it, if you hate that look, you'll hate it. I don't know if the Australian release is the same encode as the UK release, but I expect it is.

I think i'm qualified to answer this one.

I bought the Warner version first from the UK and was not disappointed. But then I heard the region A version from the States was so much better. Being a spoilt dual PS3 (region A + B) guy I bought the region A version from ebay to see the difference. The region A version is much glossier and sharper than the Warner version. I didn't compare sound because i'm only a stereo guy at the moment.

The region A version is much better overall, but I wasn't exactly disappointed with the Warner one when I had it (now sold). Its just when you put them side by side, the region A version wins hands down. The difference is striking.

I would give the Warner version a 3.8/5, i'd give the region A version a 4.9/5. In fact, i'd have to say its reference quality.

I have a feeling "knowing" will be much better on the region A version as well. I'm buying the Australian steelbook so will probably double dip this one as well. Doh.

I wont be importing since the Disney release is Region A. So I guess I will stick with the Warner Bros. Region B release here. I will probably be picking it up in September.

I bought both machines. Sorry for the confusion. I have a region A USA PS3 and a region B UK PS3. Although I try to keep my movies on the B side as much as possible, but sometimes its hard. Prestige is one of the movies that is so much better on A than it is on B.

There should be a version with Turkish subs - check out your local vendors.

This is distributed in Turkey by Tiglon.
