Default Wow that was cool!

So I'm driving into the blood place today and there's this cop behind me. The lights on his side mirrors come on and I think oh no, I'm being pulled over. I slow down, he speeds up, turns on his sirens and pulls over the guy 20 feet in front of me.

Where you doing anything wrong? That is the scariest thing when you see a cop pull a U-turn behind you. I've never gotten a ticket and haven't been pulled over in 9 years (knock on wood).

ive had that happen on multiple occasions, sometimes when im driving at night, and i go through an intersection that has a flashing red or yellow, as soon as i get through the intersection and the flashing light is visible in my rear view mirror, ill get the "im being pulled over, what did i do" panic, but i have major issues with law enforcement, so maybe thats just me that does that

Yeah. I hate when I see flashing lights when the cop is behind me. Happened to me several times.

I've had that happen. I start to pull over then he speeds up and gets the guy in front of me.

The worst was what happened to my friend. He was in a Jeep with two friends. A cop turned on their lights then they pulled over. The cop sat in the car behind them. So my friend, the driver, put both hands on the steering wheel, and all his friends put their hands in the air.

5 minutes later, the cop used his loud speaker and said "Thank you for your cooperation." and left!!

I still remember one time a cop without his sirens on ran a red light and almost hit me. At least he recommended traffic school so the ticket he gave me wouldn't go on my record.

Often they ticket people with out-of-state plates...figuring they're less likely to fight the ticket.

Wait, he didn't have his lights or sirens on, almost hit you, then gave you a ticket?

I would have fought that.

Me and a few buddies of mine were out having a good time one night and had been drinking and smoking, we decided it was time to hit the club. At this point I hadnt' been drinking in a while but was still pretty high. We're driving down the road with the windows down and a car starts to pull in front of us at an intersection. You couldn't really see what kind of car it was but one of the guys thought it would be funny to scare everyone and yell cop! I'm laughing at everyone freaking out and sure as hell it was a damn cop, right in front of us. He slows down and now we're all freaked out. About 10 seconds later he hits the lights flips a nasty U-Turn and nails the brakes then gets out of his car! I'm about to lose it at this point. So I collect myself slow down and say "yes sir?" He just looks at me and says, "go ahead, your fine." I was scared to death, thought I was about to go to jail!! lol, I still don't know why he stopped but I didn't care, I got out of there...

(No, I don't promote the use of drugs. If you don't do it, don't start!)

You should have contested that one. The laws in most states require an emergency vehicle to use visual AND audible warning devices. It's not a suggestion, and it's not one or the other, or "I'll turn the siren on when I need it." You HAVE TO use both all the time.

wow i would've been really scarred too.

i'm sorry to bother your thread like this, but im a bit of an idiot when it comes to these things. i just recently started exploring my "nerdier side," as my sister calls it and i was wondering what a good type of monitor would be to play a PS3 on. i was planning on purchasing both the PS3 and the monitor sometime before november, but im not sure what kind of settings will make for a great picture.

Again, i'm sorry about bothering your thread like this.

Traffic school erased the ticket though so it was no big deal.

Steve,

Is it true the police can give tickets to fire resue trucks for speeding trying to get their 911 destination?

Yes they can. Most of the time they won't, but they can if they're feeling like an A-Hole that day. I've known of it to happen one time in the area where I work, but that was like 15 years ago. A cop followed an ambulance into the fire station and wrote the driver a ticket. That particular officer was known for being a d*ck though.

Emergency vehicles aren't entitled to break traffic laws with as much leniency as most people think they are, and this includes police officers. You're still supposed to come to a complete stop at red lights and stop signs and wait for traffic to yield to you, and you're also limited on how much you can go over the speed limit - usually only about 10 MPH or so. These laws are very rarely enforced (obviously), but if a cop/fire truck/ambulance doesn't stop at a red light and causes an accident, they'll have a hard time proving it wasn't their fault.

You're welcome (if that was directed at me). Before you go fighting a ticket or something, though, check your state and local laws because they do vary from one area to the next.

I got a $970 ticket just south of Atlanta several years ago.

Cop said he clocked me at 96 in a 70 on I-75. No workers, no road work.

I was in fact just merging from an on-ramp, so there's no way I was going that fast. I was in the middle lane and getting passed. He then said "I'm not an idiot, it says what it says." LOL

Went to court. Of the 30 people there I was the only one in a suit. Last one called, I asked the judge to lower it 1 MPH, to 95 in a 70. He checked my background and agreed.

It lowered the fine from $970 to $500, which I had to pay in cash that day.

Should've contested it since the cop who issued the citation wasn't there. I would've contested the one I got when that cop almost rear-ended me but my word against his? Wouldn't have ended well and yes I lived in the kind of small town at the time where cops will show up for court dates like that.
