The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus UK Trailer

Quote:
Here it is, at long last , the desperately awaited first trailer for Terry Gilliam’s The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus. You will find it embedded below the break. The UK official site is open too, though at the moment all it contains is a logotype, as above, and a registration box.

When you watch the trailer, not only will you be given a vague intro to the central plot, which is something most coverage has neglected to express at all, you’ll also be given a good look at Heath Ledger as Tony, and glimpses of Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell and Jude Law as… well, as Tony too. There are so many visual ideas in this trailer and they come by so quickly that you really should decide to play it a second time, love it or hate it, just to give it a real chance.

Of course, I’m absolutely in love with it. These are scenes I’ve known about since I first read the screenplay, years ago, but most of which I’ve never seen even a glimpse of until now. More than ever I’m eagerly anticipating what Gilliam is suggesting is the greatest work of his entire career.

The good man himself will be giving an audience at the BFI Southbank one week from now, and I’ll be sure to report back anything and everything of interest.

Seeing Gilliam work with CG in such an expansive and unfettered fashion is absolutely fascinating. There’s reportedly a wider range of aesthetics in the Imaginarium sequences than on display here, but even these are gobsmacking. I’d say Jude Law in a Looney Tunes world of splitting ladders is a favourite of mine so far, but it wasn’t easy to choose.

But its the mainly stuff outside of the Imaginarium shots that really blew me away. The flashback to Christopher Plummer’s Parnassus meeting with Tom Waits’ Old Nick looks like an incredibly handsome and well mounted sequence.

This is the UK trailer, cut by Lionsgate for our release of the film over here in Blighty, due this October. Expect to see variants from the various different distributors handling the film around the world.

----------------------------------------------------
/film has some pics up:

Quote:
In this first picture you’ll see Heath Ledger as Tony. He’s neither the protagonist nor the antagonist of the film but rather the spoils of their conflict. Tony is the story
that happens to Dr. Parnassus and not the other way around, as it were.

And here is Lily Cole as Valentina, daughter of the titular doctor and key player in his magical, mysterious troop of traveling showfolk. She becomes, as you might expect, a love interest for Heath Ledger’s Tony.

Below, this is the good Doctor himself. The script describes this make-up and comfy looking attire as that of an “Indian holy man” and this is how we see him in the opening scenes when he takes his Imaginarium to the streets of London.

For more on the movie and another pic head over to /film

It's set for Sep 24.

Quote:
It’s been just a year since we have known about Heath Ledger’s last movie, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, and now it has a release date. It’s set for September 24. It’s directed by Terry Gilliam and stars Johnny Depp, Heath Ledger, Colin Farrell, Jude Law and Christopher Plummer, the movie centers on a traveling theater company that gives its audience more than they were expecting.

I watched The Dark Knight finally a couple of weeks ago. It’s sad to think that such an amazing actor is gone. I miss Heath. I’m also glad that Johnny, Colin and Jude stepped in and helped Terry finish the movie because without them we wouldn’t be able to see the last piece of his work.

And of course the hundreds of millions of dollars the film will get in the box office, because Heath Ledger is dead and that's the only reason it makes any money. At least that's what the main consensus was when The Dark Knight made a lot of bucks.

Oh wow, way different than what I had imagined when I read about it a long time ago. I'm excited to see this! That's cool to see the different versions of Heath's character

I was wondering how they could use all those actors for one part, but now I see and it looks great.

Hey,

Apparently Cruise wanted to be part of this film. Here is more:

Quote:
After Heath Ledger’s death, Terry Gilliam came up with a brilliant plan to salvage his film The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus: he would keep the footage he’d already shot of Ledger’s character in the movie’s ‘real world’ sequences, and cast a new actor, or as it turned out, actors, to fill out the film’s fantasy sequences. Gilliam recently revealed that one of the actors who was interested in the job was Tom Cruise. Obviously, he didn’t get the job. Why not?

Gilliam mentioned Cruise’s interest to Total Film:

I’m not sure if it was Tom or his agent (who put Cruise forward for the role). I know there was a period when Tom’s agents were keen. The thing is, I was only interested in people who were friends of Heath. Simple as that. I wanted to keep it in the family.

That it was Cruise’s people who put the actor’s name into the ring as a possibility isn’t a surprise, not only because that’s their job, but because the timeline for the recasting was right. Cruise needed serious image rehab, and stepping in to help Gilliam finish Heath Ledger’s last film would have been a great PR move, if the deal could be made to look like it wasn’t just a great PR move. As it turns out, his brief role in Tropic Thunder was probably a far better move when it came to regaining public interest in the wake of that crazy Scientology vid and the famous Oprah couch-jumping appearance.

I can’t help but be curious about what Cruise would have done for Imaginarium, though. I’m fascinated by the guy; there might not be a weirder major star working today. And when he’s right for the role, I genuinely like his work. (Eyes Wide Shut, for which he was perfect, and Magnolia both spring to mind.) Gilliam’s choice to go with Johnny Depp and two friends of Legder (Jude Law and Colin Farrell) was almost certainly the right one, but still I’ve got trailer voice in my head, intoning ‘in a world where Tom Cruise works with Terry Gilliam…’.

Enjoy.

Doubt it will flop. Heath Ledger agreed to do the film, so he must have thought it would be great. Johnny Depp is in it as well, and i haven't seen him in a bad movie before.

There is a chance the movie won't do well. But I highly doubt it since its the last film with Ledger so it will generate money.

Terry Gilliam makes off-the-wall content and has had his share of flops over the years. The budget on this film was around $30m if I'm not mistaken. And that was BEFORE the likes of Depp, Law, and Farrell signed on to replace Ledger (yes, I'm aware they gave their salaries to his daughter, but someone is footing the bill for those A-list salaries).

I agree with you. What i am trying to say there is a chance that the movie will flop and a chance it won't still it will be making a lot of money since its Ledger's last work.
