My first speakers I ever purchased was a pair of Model Six Two-Way Bookshelf speakers. They were a great purchase. I was thinking of going Cambridge Soundworks for my home theater. Anyone have any advice on the current Cambridge Soundworks lineup?

i live and new england and for years all my speakers were cambridge sounds. i have none now but my best friend got his entire home theater from them, and they rock. build quality is still second to none, and still some of the best bang for the buck.
they are online only now except for a single store in mass. they have some of the best "b" stock deals of anyone in the county. if near the store go, or call them direct.... |

Back when I started on this site, someone asked the very same question and I incorrectly told them they weren't worth it- I thought they were only computer speakers. Had a lot of people correct me on that one. Judging from that past thread I'd say they're definitely worth looking into.

I have a regular HT setup in the livingroom but, in my basement office I use a 5.1 setup with a Logitech THX speaker system that has 3 inputs, analog, spdif and optical so i have two pc's, an HD-dvr cable box and a blu-ray player connected to it and they are all connected to a 24" gateway monitor that is connected to a DVI-switcher. the 5.1 system is the basement sounds great. obviously, not better than the bigger system upstairs but it plays a great volumes and has a hell of a sub; they all get the job done. check into some of the logitech solutions for 5 & 7.1 speaker systems. i highly recommend them. I've had mine for years, at least 3 and it's still going strong. with the optical & spdif you can only get the lossy cores DD & DTS but with the analog, if your source can decode the lossless onboard and send it out via analog then you'll get lossless sound to and through your speakers via analog.
best luck. |

Thanks for the responses so far. I'm looking at the Cambridge SoundWorks
Newton Series® HT105-SB Home Theater - Special Build. Looks like a great buy for @ $349.99 for a 5.1 surround sound system. Here is the link for this system: http://www.cambridgesoundworks.com/s...item=k1ht105sb |

theyve always been my 'go to' guys when it used to have an outlet office here in the milpitas area. a great way to start off your home theater experience, without breaking your bank.
ive used cambridge for quite some time now, and still currently do for my gaming room, and despite its age and use, it still holds up to what i need. the only challenge i've had with them is their sensitivity levels (which is normally around 86db, which is 'normal'), but coming from horns, its quite difficult to match knowing you can go upto 99db. i cast my vote as a great starting point would be cambridge. logitechs are great as well, but hey, i started off on a different path so to speak. one thing id consider tho, is the specs on this combination. i havent had my morning coffee, so a bit lazy to get the details for you. it also depends on what you see in your prospective HT in the future - will you consider using these for a good 5 years or so? or do you happen to see yourself (honesty now friend), upgrading in the future? if so, id reconsider going this route and try to get something in the midrange line, to satisfy your current needs, without having to 'reinvest' into a new setup when the time comes around. with this in mind, you have a plethora of options. |
