Thumbs up Looking to get a Blu-ray burner, have basic questions

I'm looking to get myself a blu-ray burner but have a few questions. I have a Dell Dimension desktop with Windows XP, 1 TB HD, 3 GB of ram and a nVidia graphics card. The desktop does not have a blu-ray drive in it at all, and is not HD. My other computer is a Sony Vaio laptop with a blu-ray player already in it and a full 1080P 18.4" monitor. I would love to pick up an internal burner for my Sony Vaio laptop but I'm not sure if that's possible. As far as the desktop goes, I'm not sure it's able to handle the blu-ray burner without upgrades so IDK if that's the best idea. I was thinking about going external but that starts to get pricey.

I'm looking for suggestions and some advise!

Thanks.

Actually, internal needs to be a laptop-sized BD-burner, while external could also be a desktop-sized BD-burner, so I think that external is probably (a lot) cheaper. Secondly, upgrading your laptop internally will probably void your warranty (if you DIY). Thirdly, if you decide to buy a BD-burner, and you would like it to remain unlocked for regions/zones, make sure it is not a Matsushita/Panasonic drive (and do some online-reading on that topic). Good luck!

Thank you very much for the info!! I was looking around on Newegg and a few other places. Any ideas where I can pick up an external BD burner that is reasonably priced?? Thanks.

You're welcome. No, sorry, I didn't do any research on that lately (since I am more than happy with my current one). This might give you a start (no prices though, but a nice compilation): https://www.blu-ray.com/drives
Maybe somebody else in here can chime in?
