I've been itching to buy new gear while I'm away from civilization and saving money.
Among the things I want to buy are: 1. 60" Pioneer Kuro or Elite, depending on which one is better, quality-wise. 2. 1080p projector (from Videogon). 3. Emotiva amps. A 5-channels for the fronts and a 3-channels for the surrounds. What I want to know is if it's convenient for me to buy the equipment now and have it shipped to a relative or friend who can hold it for me until I return from deployment (many months still to go), or if I should wait to be back in N.C. and buy everything then. If I do buy something soon and have it shipped to somebody for storage I won't have them plug anything in or mess with anything, but I will ask them to keep it in a temperature-controlled room. I'm open to suggestions and any info will be greatly appreciated. V |

And what if something happens at the place where your gear is stored? I lost about 300 vinyl LP's while in storage due to a flood. Buy your gear once you get home! John |

Consider possibility of model upgrades, potential price drops, reduction in warranty period and insurance while in storage. I would wait rather than storing.

If you have to store, make sure the spot is cool, dry, and relatively dust free. Keep everything in the boxes, and maybe sit all of them on top of a couple pallets to raise them off the ground, and then cover the whole thing in plastic.

OK, so wait on the amps and PJ. Got it.
Which one of the diplays I mentioned is the best one? I've always been interested in them, but their price tag has always kept me away from them. I'm not too picky on the size of the TV, since I'm only going to use it for cable (HD of course). I will use the projector for movies and the Super Bowl and stuff like that. Right now I have a 65" DLP, but I am willing to sacrifice a few inches to have "The King of Plasmas". I should have mentioned it earlier, but I will also need a projection screen. I'm thinking of an SI Black Diamond II, but I'm for sure going to wait on that. I want a retractable one that can come down from the ceiling and cover the TV. Another option is a pop-up TV stand that will be in front of a fixed projection screen and the TV will go down when I want to use the projector. Plenty of ideas, just very far away from being able to execute. V |
