Default PS3 Slim?

Is it really worth buying? It looks amazing and I just am wondering if I should get the slim or fat

If you want to install Linux?

Get the Fat.

If you want to be able to use Bravia Sync to have your TV control the PS3 and bitstream TrueHD and DTS-HD MA sound?

Get the Slim.

Has anyone heard about (or experienced) any situation where a PS3 Slim acts differently with a Blu-ray disc than the original model? Even though they should be the same (more or less), you know internals were re-designed, chips updated, etc... I'm just curious if there's been a noticeable difference in Blu-ray functionality at all (like a disc the didn't play correctly now playing correctly, or vise-versa... that kind of thing).

Where's the cheapest place to get the PS3 Slim (legit spots)?

Is it pretty much 299 anywhere you look?

i swapped out my second gen 40gb machine for a slim last week.. i have had 6 ps3s now sinc release.. trying to find that elusive 'quiet' one..

only got the slim connected up to my receiver last night..so cant really comment on audio quality via bitstreaming yet..

but a couple of observations... the blu-ray drive is a lot 'clunkier' loading/ejecting discs.. not a huge issue when you think about it but it makes a fair whallop

seeking on the drive is loader.. but this isnt an issue for watching movies as reading in linear from the disc..

hard disk swapout is easy.. i put 250gb drive i had in my last ps3 into the slim in about 2 minutes..

fan noise... it is quieter than my previous ps3s for sure..

Soooooooooo.... I can just remove the HD from my 40GB model (320GB HD) and put it in the Slim, and load it up and it'll be just like it is on my current one?

That would save me the problem of backing up all my gamesaves and whatnot.

i say go slim hands down

more gb space for the same price as the 80g
smaller if space is more of a issue
quiter
uses less power
can bitstream dolby and dts hd
upgrade hdmi chip

only downside really, no linux

but once all the 80gbs and 160gbs are sold then thats it, they arnt coming out with anymore, the slim is gonna be the norm
so if you need linux or anything else the other systems offer then get ur hands on one before they are all gone

Nooooooooooooooo... you have to back it up and restore or you will lose all your game saves. Moving a HDD to another PS3 will force an automatic reformat of the drive.
