Default After spending time with my PS3 Slim...

I'd have to say I'm confident I made a good decision in choosing it as an upgrade to the Sony BDP-S350. I was concerned about the loading speed of DVDs and BDs, as well as DVD upconversion, but concerns have been squashed.

While I haven't held a timewatch to record any of the loading speeds, it is noticeably faster than my 350. I don't mind loading times, as it gives me time to turn out lights, put the ottoman in place, etc.

The upconversion also is better than the 350. "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" and "Sweeney Todd" on DVD look pretty rad. Images are crisp and tight, colors are good. All this on a 42-inch Samsung plasma.

Blu playback is better, too. PQ and AQ have gone up. I've noticed better blacks, especially. Audio quality has risen simply because the Slim can decode all the HD codecs.

At first, I thought of getting an Oppo, but some of its features I wouldn't use, so I felt I wouldn't get the most out of the system. Also, I was looking for a unit with WiFi.

So, while I might be losing some PQ, especially with upconverted DVDs, I'm infinitely happy with my Slim purchase. I'm not much of a gamer, but did pick up three games with it (Batman, Uncharted, MGS4), so they'll go through their paces this Labor Day weekend And I'll re-evaluate everything once my new 50-inch plasma comes in on Tuesday

Thanks to everyone who helped me figure out the ins-and-outs of the Slim. It's much appreciated.

Just thought I'd share my 2 cents

I was thinking about getting an Oppo too, but the Slim looks better price-wise.

I'd love to get the Oppo, but I'm not a super-huge videophile, so the expense would be wasted on me. The Slim sounds like just the ticket for me and I'm contemplating selling my launch 60gb for it, especially now that I know the Slim bitstreams.

I got a Slim for my son's room, and I am super happy. Maybe loads a couple of seconds slower than my 60GB, but it is much quieter. Now he can play his car games, watch his BDs and DVDs without any problems (well kind of .
