My Samsung 1600 stopped loading discs today. Bought it earlier this year and I'm getting a full $200 refund from Amazon. I'm looking for another player & I've been hearing good things about Sony/Panasonic players. I'm looking to spending around $250, maybe $300 for a new standalone player.
My only problem is that my player just had to break 4 weeks before Black Friday. Now I'm wondering if I should just wait until Black Friday for good deals. The bad thing is that I don't know what I'd do for 4 weeks w/o a Blu-ray player ![]() So I guess I'm asking if you think I should bite the bullet now, which player? or if I should just wait? Oh and my friend recommended this LG player today: http://www.amazon.com/LG-Network-Blu...960463&sr=1-13 ^^ any good? |

I think you'll live without one until then. if i were you, knowing what i know now, i'd save up just another $225 bucks and buy me an Oppo, but that's just me!
I'm sure there will be plenty of blu on sale for black Friday, but i'm looking at this thing for the long hall and i'm thinking fellow forum reviews, industry reviews and awards and i'm thinking nothing i can get on black friday will have the numbers of those things in the positive that the Oppo will have despite their great black Friday prices. i know it's painfull and all and that ultimately you will do what you need to do. i'm not sure if you could spare the extra money or how long it might take you to save for it but i will tell you, it's well worth it. i wouldn't trade mine for the world. of course, with that said, there is always the second runner up and that's the PS3 slim! best of luck to ya and keep us posted! |

I'm about to buy another better blu-ray player as well. I have a $50 Amazon gift card. Should I buy the Sony BDP-S560 for $233-50=$183 or the PS3 Slim (120GB) for $299-50= $249?
I'm not much of a gamer but I'm still waiting on FFXIII which may be a century away. Which is the better system for now? |

so, again, of those two players you mentioned earlier, get the PS3 slim. don't be surprised that you might want to start playing games on it! hell, you can even download demo's for free with it; try before you buy. there is a game out there for everyone! |

Yeah it pretty much would. It's a power hog and a small space heater compared to standalone players and right now, it's not that much faster than the Sony or Panasonic standalone players. The PS3 is maybe a few seconds faster for both, but that's it. So I'm in the boat that says get the Sony S560.

I am not a gamer at all and I went with the ps3 as my blu-ray player with no regrets.
They are great movie players and for the price you aren't going to find much better, or with faster loading times. At this point I honestly feel that my next step up would just about have to be an Oppo. I bought mine used (old fat model) with several games that just sit on my shelf and I honestly do not feel that the ps3 was the wrong way to go. Sure, there are cheaper blu players available but some of them are questionable at best. Who knows how long they will last before they crap out or something? One thing that I have to remind people of is that when you buy a ps3 you are buying a Sony machine, with Sony quality and Sony reliability. Believe me, I am NOT a Sony fanboy at all but when you look at whats available, then start comparing features, build quality, performance quality, prices, load times, disc compatibility, support, firmware updates, ect...the ps3 is tough to beat. Remember to buy what you like and fits your budget. Weigh the options and get perhaps get an idea of what models you might like to purchase with or without a black Friday sale. Then when black Friday gets here see if you can find one of your pre-selected choices on sale. That way you avoid buying something you may not be completely satisfied with in the long run, just because it was $50.00 off that day... ![]() Good luck and happy shopping. |
