xXx should take the weekend based on the cast alone, though marketing has been sparse. $22 million.
Split could surprise. The Visit made money and this one's actually supposed to be good. $17 million. The Founder should do okay but not spectacular. $5 million. 20th Century Women has done well in limited release but most of these A24 wide titles fail to connect with general audiences. $2 million. Is there really any interest in The Resurrection of Gavin Stone? It seems like the only people who fail to realize that 90% of these low-budget religious films don't make money are the theatre chains that continue to book them while refusing day-and-date titles. $1 million. Actually, the preview will only be in 24 markets. It's not on the level of Sing's 200 theatre sneak preview (though I wouldn't be surprised if Universal was planning another preview on that level).

I guess 24 markets won't undermine things too much. And yes, it's nothing like Sing. I think that was at a ton of AMC theaters. At least it was here in the H-Town area. Split is only screening at one theater here tomorrow night.

Voted for Split, won't be surprised if xXx wins. Also won't be surprised when/if they do a xXx/Fast & Furious crossover. It would take exactly one line of dialogue: "Ah, my twin brother's in trouble again, something about cars..."

A Monster Calls is going to have such a massive theater drop. No theater in Colorado is playing after today.

I'm the exact opposite. I don't think there's a single movie in theaters right now I'm even halfway interested in. |
