My guess is that the 60 gig will be a $100 price drop to eliminate the stock. They are too close in size to sell these two different sku's (60 vs 80, $100 more for 20 gig????). This way they are technically advertising the price cut as clearance versus a strategic move to be more competitive.
Due to supplies the 80 gig is a natural progression to upgrade for no additional cost. |

Looks like Sony's plan is probably by this holiday season having only the $599 80gb model available. There's just no way an 80gb model will stand up to the 60gb for $100 less, even with the free copy of Motorstorm.

Remeber that PS3 HDD can be upgraded to any 2.5" (laptop) SATA hard drives. These drive will get larger, and cheaper as time goes buy.
Then there are portable USB HDDs. Any USB HDD can work on PS3 as long as it's partitioned and formatted correctly. Windows NT/Xp/2000 will not be able to make fat32 partions greater than 32GB. However Fat 32 can theoretically handle drives up to 8TB. However i believe performace issues may arise in large FAT32 partions. So i would test out performace, first. The easies i to make one large partion using fdisk. Oh yes, Fat 32 only alows the maximum file size to be 4GB. So files over 4gb will not be compatible with the file system and not be written to it. to format files larger than 32GB is to use a windows 9x/ME machine, or use the command line tool mkdosfs ported from linux. quick down and dirty how to with mkdosfs is here note: path to mkdosfs is where the exe is. to keep it simple dump the contents on to the C: and not in any folders. than type comand as is in comand prompt As for 80gb version, it's was bound to happen, that's why it worth waiting a year before getting a console. though we could not wait for that ![]() Last edited by takezo; 07-09-2007 at 08:28 AM. |

I hear the new Blu-ray standard (is it 2.0?), taking effect this October, will require Blu players to offer certain features. I would ASSUME Sony would incorporate these in the new 80gb PS3, but I didn't know if there's any hard data to support this yet?
Thanks. |
