Default Microsoft ‘Gears of War’ Movie!!

Quote:
The film adaptation, announced during a livestream for the upcoming release of “Gears of War 4,” is being developed with Universal Pictures under the eye of veteran film producers Scott Stuber (“Ted,” “The Kingdom”) and Dylan Clark (“Rise of the Planet of the Apes”). A movie based on the popular third-person shooter franchise has been rumored for years, but Rod Fergusson, studio head of game developer The Coalition, said now was the right time to make the leap to film.

“As a way to support the franchise the next logical step was to make the movie,” Fergusson told Variety. “We’d done comics and novels in the past but the opportunity to work with Universal to bring the movie to life was perfect.”

It’s unclear at this point whether the film will be a straight adaptation of the games, which originally followed soldier Marcus Fenix in his fight against an invading threat known as the Locust, or if it will be an all-new story set in the universe.

I swore I heard this too. Regardless, it's good to know that there may be legs to it now. Was a big fan of the first game and watched all the cinematic cut-scenes on youtube a while back.

I played the first game on PC forever ago and don't remember it's story being the highlight. That said I am always up for more sci-fi.

I'll believe it when they actually start shooting. They announced this like 9 years ago and nothing came of it.

I'm a huge Gears fan so I'd love for this to happen. These games actually have a great story that'd make for a great movie.

If it is anything like the last couple of games I'll pass. If it does come out it'll probably be pg13.

Hopefully this will be capture the look and style of Gears of War, and gory like the games with the chainsaw, though I imagine they'll play it safer and go with a non gory PG 13 version for wider appeal.

I wouldn't mind if they went just straight CGI with this, that way we can retain the voice actors and wouldn't have to worry about casting letdowns for live action.

They'd probably hire a hack like Paul WS Anderson or John Moore to helm this.

Personally would love for Gareth Edwards to get the gig.

I'd rather they just kill it. The IP is on its last legs as it is, and a terrible film could put it six feet under.

Surprised that this is gaining any momentum. Microsoft rubbed many people the wrong way with their bravado and ego while trying to get Halo off the ground.

I think that would work out just fine, still has to be R-rated though.

Until it's actually about to be released, there is no momentum. They can talk about it all they want, just like the metal gear film, but I still don't see either of them being made.

Netflix Lands Rights

Quote:
Following months of negotiations, Netflix has landed the rights to popular XBox video game Gears of War. The streamer will partner with The Coalition, the video game developer behind the series, and work with them to not only develop a feature film adaptation but also an animated series.

As of right now, there are no producers, writers or directors involved but the property is expected to be a top priority for Netflix and development should begin quickly on getting those positions filled.

Thanks.

Netflix gets some projects out the door to completion, while others are still collecting dust, like the Don Bluth Dragon's Lair Live Action movie where Ryan Reynolds was going to be Dirk the Daring.

As far as Gears of War, a CGI movie could be cool, though it would probably earn a bigger box office with live action and monsters. Then again, it'll be mostly confined to Netflix after a short possible theatrical run.

Gears of War 5, what the movie could potentially resemble.

I can picture The Rock as the lead hero.

I am a die hard GoW fan. Im seriously hoping they stay loyal to the source material unlike the Halo show.
