Default Butt Kicker LFE Kit Questions (JUST GOT IT!!!)

I'm loving the Buttkicker. It was my 30th b-day present to myself. Sad to leave my 20's, happy to have the Buttkicker .

1. I'm using the riser kit, but my couch is heavy and causes the Buttkicker end to come off the floor. On Iron Man if I turn the BK up too high it ends up rattling the whole thing a causing a noticable rattle sound. If I go over and stand on it all of that energy gets transfered into the couch. Has anyone experienced this problem and figured out away around it? No place to screw the BK into the couch at. Any suggestions on a counterweight? Would placing it at the front/less heavy end of the couch help? Looking for some engineering insight.

2. For all who have it, do you keep the amplifier on all the time or do you turn it off when not in use? Any idea of the power usage when leaving it on when you are not using it? Is that safe for the equipment? Thanks!

I never heard of a couch being so heavy that it lifts the transducer and the base it is attached to up in the air? Wow......could you supply some pics so we can see exactly what is happening?

I turn the amp off when not in use. I keep it next to my primary seating position, so it is as easy as bending down to simply turn off the switch. I never liked the idea of this amp being left on or in "stand-by." I don't klnow why, but I am not comfortable with it.

A few of us here have them, and I'm sure they too would like to see this. Not to be funny, but to better evaluate the problem......

1. Sounds like the Buttkicker is bottoming out. Mine will shake and rattle like crazy on The Incredible Hulk when the sonic cannons fire if it is turned up too loud. I found that 4 works for every film I've watched so far without bottoming out.

2. I leave mine on and let it go into stand-by when not in use. I guess I'm too lazy to flip it on every time. After watching a movie and it goes into stand-by the amp makes a clicking sound that sounds like Morse Code, it goes away after a minute or so.

brokenthumb, I am pretty sure he is saying his couch actually "lifts" the transducer and the base it is attached to off the ground because it is so heavy, and I think this is causing his problem...however it could be the settings as well. A picture is really worth a thousand words!

That does sound strange... LOL Your right, a picture really would help.

I'm still gonna post a picture, but it doesn't "bottom out". If I go forcibly hold the shaker down when it is shaking that hard then the shaker doesn't hit the sides of its encasing. However if I leave it to itself it causes the casing and stand to move around causing the BK to sound likes its "bottoming out". Perhaps some of you are experiencing the same problem, but haven't realized it?

If it were an option, I would mount it directly onto the couch, but it is a sleeper sofa and there is no internal space.

Thats cool. I took it that it was "bouncing around" because it was not stabilized by being suspended in the air. I figured it would sound and operate much better being "grounded" as well. I am actually looking forward to seeing the "flying buttkicker" in action.

I have checked mine, and it does take some "stabilization" when using the plate under the couch leg to keep that "clipping" sound at bay. That is one of the reasons I believe the transducer is so darn heavy, along with the base plate....to help stabilize it. By the way, is the base plate resting on hardwood floors or something else "hard?"

I bottomed mine out for the first time tonight on Rambo. I had it reaaallllly loud lol. The bottoming doesn't damage it does it? I've read they are indestructable.

Are you using the butt-kicker with LCRS/LFE.1 if so use one butt-kicker for LCRS and balance the level so you can feel it not rattle the sofa to braking point?

Same for the LFE.1 less is more I’d say you got a little too excited and turned it up near to its technical tolerance limit. There is no reason or excuse for this butt-kicker to last 10 or more years.
